Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Substation Senior Electrical Engineer – EHV Design to support Renewables/Utility/Power projects. The Senior Engineer acts as a technical leader and applies standard engineering techniques and procedures on substation design projects, providing technical guidance and oversight to other engineers while directly interacting with clients and stakeholders.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as a technical subject matter expert for substation electrical extra-high voltage (EHV) projects and design considerations
- Develops and maintains substation electrical specifications for EHV (500kV and above) equipment and supports the creation and updates of substation EHV electrical design standards
- Serves in a lead design role on substation EHV projects, providing technical guidance and oversight to other engineers while also interacting directly with clients and their stakeholders on projects
- Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings for EHV substation projects, including one-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, and control panel elevations, in accordance with applicable IEEE standards and corona mitigation practices
- Capable of reviewing and producing physical design drawings for EHV substation projects, including general arrangement drawings, plan and elevation views, conduit routing plans, grounding plans, and equipment detail drawings, with consideration for phase spacing, electrical clearances, corona effects, and IEEE/NESC compliance
- Perform engineering calculation studies for EHV and HV systems, including corona onset voltage (IEEE Std 539), radio interference voltage (IEEE Std 430), audible noise prediction (IEEE Std 656), electric field gradients, and corona loss (IEEE Std 539), as well as AC and DC loading, conduit fill, voltage drop, and lightning protection (IEEE Std 141, IEEE Std 80, and IEEE Std 525)
- Prepare equipment specifications for EHV substation components (e.g., breakers, disconnects, transformers, CCVTs, wave traps), review vendor drawings for compliance with project and IEEE standards, and evaluate technical bids to ensure alignment with system performance requirements, reliability criteria, and corona/AIS considerations
- Familiarity with substation SCADA, communications, and network engineering a plus
- Experience with commissioning and/or field engineering time a plus
- Knowledge of basic relay settings a plus
- Knowledge of National Electrical Code (NEC) a plus
