FNTS is a nationally recognized Cloud Service Provider that specializes in managed IT services. The Sr. IBM iSeries Engineer is responsible for maintaining customer IBM i/iSeries environments, solving technical problems, and ensuring proper handling of system backups while participating in migration and expansion projects.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to incidents and requests in a timely manner providing in-depth analysis and solutions to meet service level agreements
- Review previous issues looking for opportunities to proactively avoid future problems as part of the FNTS Continuous Improvement culture
- Perform reporting functions as required or requested by customer
- Preparation of special activities (DR Testing/Planning, OS upgrades, PTF deployment)
- Maintenance and configuration of the IBM i OS and Licensed Program Products (LPP’s)
- Write and maintain system documentation
- Work with customers to accomplish their migration to FNTS or remote management setup
- Using team roadmap, implement technologies to achieve it, e.g. develop new offerings through taking advantage of new hardware capabilities or additional OS capabilities such as Live Partition Mobility (LPM)
- Install new software (OS & major subsystem) releases while working with customer on timing/testing/implementation
- Maintain golden/sandbox systems for templates
- Participate in technical infrastructure projects as the IBM i SME
Requirements:
- IBM iSeries System Administration (10+ years experience)
- Knowledge of i/OS systems from V5R4 to V7R3 and major differentiators
- Knowledge of POWER systems hardware
- Experience configuring LPARs using the Hardware Management Console
- Experience with storage management in JBOD, RAID, and SAN environments and the performance differences with each
- Experience defining and troubleshooting Printer configurations
- Experience configuring TCP/IP and associated servers in an IPV4 environment (IPv6 desired)
- Understanding of journal management
- Software based replication (MIMIX, iTera, PowerHA)
- BRMS backup solutions for system recovery/migration
- Familiarity with Physical and Virtual tape library configuration and implementation
- OS Upgrades, PTF Deployment and software installation via Image Catalog
- Experience using performance tools such as MPG
- Experience configuring and deploying automation and monitoring tools such as Halcyon, absMessage, and Robot products
- Experience coding and debugging CL
- Self-motivated and able to work independently
- Excellent communication skills (written, verbal and presentations)
- Knowledge of AV/AR, web query, Flash Copy, and Global Mirror desired
