Applications Engineer - Remote

Kforce Inc is seeking an Applications Engineer for their client in Nesconset, NY. This remote role involves designing and supporting vehicle electronic systems for emergency and specialty vehicles, with a focus on customer interaction and real-world applications.

Responsibilities:

• Design and configure vehicle control systems using ladder logic and related programming methods
• Integrate and troubleshoot CAN-based multiplexing systems, including J1939
• Collaborate with engineering, product, and customer teams to define application requirements and deliver tailored solutions
• Interpret electrical schematics and develop system architecture and wiring documentation
• Support field installations, commissioning, and customer troubleshooting
• Provide technical training and create clear documentation for internal and external users
• Serve as a technical resource for complex vehicle electrical challenges

Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field preferred, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of hands-on experience with vehicle electronics
• Strong foundation in electrical engineering principles
• Experience working with 12V / 24V vehicle electrical systems
• Practical knowledge of CAN networks and diagnostic tools
• Experience supporting field installs or customer-facing technical issues
• Willingness to travel nationally up to 50% of the time (typically two weeks per month)
• Fire, EMS, utility, or specialty vehicle markets
• Ladder logic programming and multiplexed vehicle systems
• Industry standards or compliance experience
• HMI, I/O modules, or EMI/EMC considerations
