Renewyx is a utility-scale renewable energy developer seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Planning & Engineering to lead the integration of engineering and project development functions. The role involves overseeing project design, permitting strategy, and engineering execution while acting as a liaison between various teams to ensure alignment on technical risk and project objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide senior leadership support to executive management, including operational continuity and strategic decision-making
- Oversee internal civil, land development, and electrical engineering design efforts from concept through construction readiness
- Manage external vendor relationships for environmental studies, geotechnical investigations, and specialized technical analyses
- Review and approve design packages prepared by third-party engineering firms for utility-scale solar and BESS projects
- Establish and maintain engineering standards, risk assessment frameworks, and quality control protocols across all projects
- Serve as key liaison between engineering, development, and finance functions to ensure alignment on technical risk, cost, and constructability
- Lead early-stage site evaluations, constraints analyses, and preliminary layouts to guide project feasibility and site selection
- Develop and execute permitting strategies in coordination with local, state, and federal regulatory agencies
- Oversee preparation of crossing agreements, legal descriptions, easements, and land development packages
- Review ALTA surveys, title commitments, and boundary documentation for accuracy and compliance
- Collaborate with development and finance teams on cost modeling, construction planning, and risk mitigation strategies
- Track engineering budgets, schedules, and deliverable status across multiple concurrent projects
- Identify and mitigate risks to project scope, timeline, and budget
- Support executive decision-making through technical reviews, risk assessments, and strategic recommendations
- Mentor and develop junior and mid-level engineers and planning professionals
- Foster a collaborative, solutions-driven culture grounded in technical excellence, accountability, and innovation
Requirements:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil, Environmental, Electrical, or related Engineering discipline
- Experience: 7+ years in renewable energy project development, site engineering, or related technical management roles
- Project Scale: Proven experience with utility-scale solar and/or energy storage projects
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Demonstrated ability to manage internal teams and external consultants in fast-paced, multi-project environments
- Regulatory & Permitting Expertise: Strong understanding of federal, state, and local permitting processes and regulatory compliance requirements
- Technical Proficiency: Advanced skills with GIS, CAD, and renewable energy design tools (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Helioscope)
- Communication & Leadership: Exceptional organizational and communication skills; ability to synthesize complex technical data into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
- Direct experience working with EPC contractors, independent engineers, or owner's engineering firms
- Familiarity with planning and zoning commissions, environmental agencies (USACE, SHPO, USFWS), and authority having jurisdiction (AHJ) processes
- Experience across multiple U.S. power markets and ISO/RTO regions
