Ulteig is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Subconsultant Lead Engineer, a role focused on supporting the company's growth in subconsultant partnerships. The Subconsultant Lead Engineer will act as the Project Technical Lead on subconsultant-based projects, overseeing the development of essential engineering documents and ensuring adherence to client standards.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the effort to develop scoping documents, estimates, schedules, substation drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Cable and Conduit Plans, Grounding Plans, AC/DC Schematics, Panel Elevations, Electrical Equipment Enclosure Plans, Wiring Diagrams, Specifications, and Reports to ensure that they are complete, accurate, and in accordance with sound engineering practices and client standards
- Act as a technical leader and apply standard engineering techniques and procedures on moderately complex projects
- Plan, schedule, conduct and/or coordinate detailed phases of assigned project work
- Make design recommendations, adaptations and modifications for utility substations
- Perform calculations using engineering formulas and skills
- Involved in the resolution of design problems, which may include performing field investigation or observation, detailed design work and detailed quality control (QC) review of design calculations
- Coordinate specific design aspects of a project requiring the ability to plan, schedule, conduct, and communicate work with team members
- Provide technical guidance to other engineers, including subconsultant partners
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required
- ABET accredited program or equivalent required
- Ability to obtain PE License within 1 year required
- 6+ years of experience in the Power Engineering field
- Effective leadership and mentoring skills
- Oversight, leadership, and quality review of subconsultant engineering design and project scheduling on subconsultant-resourced projects
- Excellent verbal and written communications, time management, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Capable of leading complex substation projects with a multidiscipline team from full scope estimating and proposals, through detailed design, to commissioning and construction support for energization
- Prior experience with physical, protection & control, and/or civil/structural design of electrical power substations required
- Capable of reviewing and producing design drawings, including General Arrangements, Elevations, Cable and Conduit Plans, Grounding Plans, Physical Connection Details, AC/DC schematics, and wiring diagrams
- Ability to perform AC & DC substation studies
- High level of initiative and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects with clear expectations while being highly responsive, internally and externally
- Proven experience in Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point and Access) and additional software knowledge depending on specialty
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards
- Demonstrates openness to innovation by embracing and applying evolving technology and AI tools to enhance workflows, solve problems, and drive continuous improvement
- Must have permanent authorization to work in US
- PE License strongly preferred
- On site commissioning and/or construction support experience a plus
- Experience using ground grid modeling software a plus
- Knowledge of substation protection and control schemes a plus
- Knowledge of basic relay settings, National Electric Code (NEC), National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), and Rural Utilities Service (RUS) design guide a plus
