Piper Companies is seeking a Sr. Data/Platform Engineer for a remote position. This role is responsible for designing, developing, and automating data pipelines, backend services, and core platform components to support large-scale healthcare marketing data.
Responsibilities:
- Build and modernize a new cloud‑based data warehouse to replace legacy data systems
- Design, develop, and automate ETL/ELT data pipelines for high‑volume marketing engagement data (e.g., user activity, open/click behavior)
- Develop backend services and application components that support data ingestion, transformation, and delivery
- Structure, clean, and process data to ensure quality, consistency, and readiness for analytics and downstream systems
- Collaborate with engineering and product teams to define platform architecture and data flow patterns
- Implement tools and processes that allow data to be ingested and processed automatically
- Troubleshoot issues across pipelines, backend services, and cloud infrastructure with appropriate urgency
- Contribute to platform engineering efforts across infrastructure, data operations, and software development
- Work extensively with public cloud services (AWS strongly preferred; Azure acceptable)
- Participate in a newly formed engineering team building a greenfield system from the ground up
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, data engineering, or platform engineering
- Strong backend development skills using languages such as Python, Java, or Rust
- Hands-on experience creating and supporting ETL/ELT pipelines and automated data workflows
- Proven ability to build backend services, APIs, and distributed systems
- Strong cloud experience with AWS or Azure (AWS preferred)
- Experience working with modern data warehouses, cloud storage, and large-scale data processing
- Understanding of data modeling, data structures, and transformations
- Experience working with APIs, file integrations, batch processes, or streaming data
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and contribute across multiple engineering areas
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred
