Zip Co is a global 'Buy Now, Pay Later' company that is seeking a Tech Lead, DevOps Engineer to spearhead their Infrastructure projects and mentor the engineering team. The role requires exceptional knowledge in Azure, IaC, Kubernetes, and Service Mesh technologies, focusing on automating processes and delivering innovative solutions in a collaborative environment.
Responsibilities:
- Define and lead the multi-year roadmap for Infrastructure & DevOps, ensuring Zip’s platform scales efficiently with rapid growth
- Drive the architectural vision for multi-region, active-active infrastructure to enhance global reliability and continuity
- Partner with a broader group of senior technologists from Application Engineering, Security, Data, and Platform teams to shape system-wide patterns, integration strategies, and engineering best practices
- Serve as a technical ambassador for Infrastructure, influencing design reviews, architectural forums, and cross-team initiatives
- Design advanced cloud, Kubernetes, and service mesh architectures that support Zip’s evolving transaction and event-driven ecosystems
- Lead DevOps engineers in bringing designs to life through IaC, automation, tooling, and scalable operational practices
- Architect automated failover, self-healing systems, and metrics-driven deployment strategies to strengthen Zip’s high-availability posture
- Continuously improve observability, incident response patterns, and operational automation across the stack
- Champion best practices for IaC, CaC, CI/CD, and platform automation using tools like Terraform, Atlantis, ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, and Azure DevOps
- Evaluate emerging technologies—including AI-enhanced engineering tools—to increase team productivity and reduce cognitive load
Requirements:
- Exceptional knowledge in Azure, IaC, Kubernetes, Service Mesh technologies
- Adept at automating processes and providing solutions for complex projects
- Ability to effectively communicate standards and cross-collaborate within a 'blameless' team environment
- Experience operating as a technical leader, architect, or senior engineer responsible for guiding roadmaps, making strategic technical decisions, and influencing engineering direction
- Strong communication skills with the ability to bring teams together, drive consensus, and mentor engineers at multiple levels
- 12-15 years in Infrastructure, DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering roles
- Advanced experience with Kubernetes, microservice architectures, and service mesh technologies
- Expert-level experience building in Azure, including high-availability and multi-region patterns
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, networking, routing, and modern cloud architecture
- Proven experience operating GitOps workflows using Argo CD for Kubernetes application delivery
- Proficiency in IaC and CaC best practices using tools such as Terraform, CDK, Packer, and Atlantis
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD systems (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar)
- Demonstrated ability to design scalable tooling and automation that accelerates developer workflows and reduces operational toil
- A collaborative, 'blameless,' continuous-learning approach to problem-solving
- Comfortable working in an agile environment with fast iteration cycles
- Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation as part of shared operational ownership
- Experience using generative AI tools (ChatGPT, Cursor, Copilot, etc.) to enhance engineering workflows
