General Motors is seeking a Senior Software Engineer – Automation Platforms to design, build, and own scalable software frameworks that support software development across GM’s vehicle systems. The role involves collaborating with engineering teams to create robust platforms and contributing to the evolution of GM’s software ecosystem.
Responsibilities:
- Design and develop scalable Python-based frameworks and libraries that power a global automation and developer productivity ecosystem
- Own software features and initiatives end-to-end, from requirements and design through implementation and long-term support
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and supporting infrastructure to enable reliable, repeatable software delivery
- Contribute to system and framework architecture, ensuring solutions are extensible, maintainable, and performant
- Participate in code reviews, setting a high bar for engineering quality, design, and best practices
- Act as a technical mentor, supporting the growth and development of other engineers on the team
- Collaborate in an Agile/Scrum environment, participating in backlog refinement, sprint planning, and retrospectives
- Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends related to software engineering, automation platforms, and developer tooling
Requirements:
- 5+ years of experience developing software in multiple programming languages such as Python, Java, C++, C#, Groovy, Scala, etc
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field
- Hands-on experience building automation-related software solutions, including familiarity with open-source and commercial automation tools
- Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams
- Understanding of Vehicle Electrical Architecture and vehicle subsystems/features
- Advanced degree in engineering or management/leadership
- Experience building or extending automation frameworks such as Robot and developing reusable enablers within them
- 3+ years of experience in Automotive Software Development or Test, including exposure to software or test architecture
- Prior experience working on a software development team practicing Agile/Scrum
