Willdan Performance Engineering is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead innovative energy solutions in building improvement projects. The role involves designing electrical infrastructure to enhance energy efficiency and collaborating with a diverse team to meet client energy objectives.
Responsibilities:
- Experience with electric building design. Design electrical systems upgrades and improvements to improve energy efficiency. Point to Point understanding of power distribution and interconnection to the Utility Grid to the Service Entrance down to the end use receptacle. Advanced knowledge of energy conservation guidelines using IECC, Title24 and projects with LEED Certification
- Fundamentals of Power Distribution. Advanced Understanding of electrical theory covering 3-phase and 1-phase power, power triangle & power factor, Grounding, Principles of Magnetism applied to Transformers and Motors
- Perform Complex Engineering Calculations & Analysis (see qualifications below). In-depth understanding of software apps and resources used in Electrical Engineering (SKM, ETAP, CYME, Excel Tools, etc.)
- Stand By Power and Alternative Energy Sources. Size combustion generators as it applies to high-performance buildings and electrical distribution systems, automatic transfer switches. Emphasis on integrating DER components including PV, BESS and EV charging. Exposure to microgrid design and/or integrating BESS and microgrid controls into solar PV and EV infrastructure projects is a bonus
- Strong Understanding of utility interconnection requirements. Design the electrical infrastructure and protective relays required by the utility for on-site generation. Support the DER team and their efforts as they work with utility providers to submit the required documentation and complete the utility interconnection process
- Excellent Time Management Skills. Ability to work on multiple projects of varying complexities. Ability to work on concurrent projects across multiple geographical regions. Work under limited supervision

- Start to Finish. You will develop concepts from the ground up. Use information from site visit to develop concept. Produce construction drawings (CDs) using CAD software. Complete CDs and apply for permit. Work with construction teams and contractors to see our designs installed in the field. Review and approval of equipment submittals
- Articulate. The candidate must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal skills. Comfortable presenting to clients, team members and internal leadership
- Occasional Travel Required (~15%). Site visits to document the existing infrastructure. Provide engineering evaluations, electrical systems audits, and construction support as needed

Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or higher. Electrical engineering, architectural engineering, or building science from a fully accredited ABET program
- PE License is Required
- 8+ years of electrical design experience with commercial, education, government or light industrial projects typically at an MEP consulting firm
- Advanced Understanding of low voltage systems 600V and lower, both AC and DC distributions. Includes 480/277V, 208/120V and 240/120V systems, single phase or three phase. Medium Voltage experience is a plus
- Perform Engineering Calculations. Includes: fault current studies, Arc Flash Analysis, Selective Coordination Studies, Service Entrance Calculations, Transformer Sizing, Overcurrent Protection of Motors & Transformers, Conduit Fill and Conductor Sizing with applicable derating factors
- Knowledge of applicable building codes and regulations including IEEE, NFPA, NEC (NFPA70), California Electric Code (CEC) & Title 24, UL Listings, Life Safety, IBC, and OSHA
- Technical Understanding of Grounding and Bonding
- Expansive product knowledge of manufacturers (Eaton, Schneider, ABB, Siemens, etc.)
- Ability to size and specify distribution equipment: diesel generators, electrical switchgear & switchboards, panelboards, disconnect switches, etc
- Assemble and compile Division26 specifications
- Take Ownership of Projects. Ability to take a project from the initial site visit into preliminary design through Construction Drawing completion. Stay actively involved with the project during the permit process and into Construction
- Proficient in AutoCAD, Revit is a plus
- Skilled in Microsoft Office, Excel, and Teams; working knowledge of Bluebeam Revu
