GE Vernova is a company focused on innovative energy solutions, and they are seeking a Senior Engineer in the Plant Instrumentation & Control Systems Design team. This role is primarily focused on developing and supporting rod control systems for boiling water reactors, including requirements definition, design specifications, and field deployment.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain an understanding of rod control systems used in existing and new boiling water reactors (BWRs)
- Prepare and maintain system requirements specifications developed based on customer requirements, technical regulations and industry standards
- Establish and maintain traceability of system requirements using requirements management tools
- Prepare and maintain system design artifacts such as logic diagrams, input/output (I/O) lists, equipment and cabinet layout diagrams or drawings, system elementary drawings, hardware wiring/connection diagrams, bills of material, various plans and reports, etc
Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree
- 5 years' experience with productivity software [i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio]
- 10+ years' experience with “from scratch” system and software design, configuration, analysis, testing, and modeling related to: Distributed Control Systems (DCS) OR Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) OR Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA)
- 5 years' experience designing human machine interface screens or graphical user interfaces
- 4 years' experience working with motor positioning/servo systems using closed loop control
- 4 years' experience developing software supporting serial and Ethernet data communications
- 4 years with configuration and operation of networking components
- 7+ years' experience working under a structured systems and software development lifecycle process including use of industry standards, design practices, and guides for software development and testing
- Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Technology, Mechatronics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree
- 8 years of experience with power generation or industrial controls equipment
- 8 years of experience with instrumentation and control system new product development projects
- 4 year experience developing set points and calibration methodologies
- 6 year experience with environmental and seismic testing and qualification of control equipment
- 10 years of experience in “from scratch” programmable logic controller (PLC) or distributed control systems (DCS) software design including GE Mark-VIe DCS
- 6 years of experience developing human machine interfaces or graphical user interfaces
- 6 years of experience developing C/C++ software in accordance with industry standards
- 6 years of experience working with motor positioning/servo systems using closed loop control
- 4 years of hands-on experience wiring cabinets, building connectors, installation, and configuration of electrical/electronic components for product testing
- Prior nuclear power plant systems or operator training including reactor theory
- Clear thinker, detail oriented, insightful, quantitative, results oriented analyst and engineer – Able to make reasoned, sound, and timely decisions
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and writing
- Self-starter with energy and positive “Can-Do” attitude with legacy of delivering on commitments and stretch goals
