GE Vernova is a leader in the energy sector, and they are seeking a Senior Mechanical Systems Engineer to support the design of the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor. The role involves overseeing mechanical design activities, ensuring integration and performance of various components, and driving validation and verification processes.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for Mechanical Nuclear Island Systems (MNI) engineering activities that support the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor (SMR) design
- Primary focus areas for the MNI team: 1. Overall ownership of mechanical design for the Nuclear Boiler (B21), Isolation Condenser (E52) and Fine Motion Control Rod Drive (G12) Systems, including both the DNNP-1 specific design and future design iterations. 2. Construction support of the DNNP-1 SMR currently under construction by OPG. 3. Procurement support of the DNNP-1 project for assigned systems
- Conduct component and product integration. All activities that span multiple components and products and are concerned with how to integrate for maximum performance and operability. Manage product and systems requirements, specifications and flow down
- Drive validation and verification activities for the overall product/system, including system level testing
- Responsible for defining product requirements for the module / component / subcontractors and partners teams
- Manage interface between components and execution organizations
- Responsible for driving CTQ / Risk trades within the teams designing the components. Manage the overall product configuration and configuration control system
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; acquiring higher level knowledge and skills
- Maintain a basic understanding of key business drivers; use this understanding to accomplish own work. Understand how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolve issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consult more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be include leading a junior team. For customer facing roles, develop strong customer relationships and serve as the interface between customer and GE. Explain technical information to others
Requirements:
- 8 years of experience in the Engineering/Technology & Systems Engineering within the nuclear industry
- Knowledge level is comparable to a Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma with relevant experience)
- Professional Engineering Designation in Ontario (P.eng)
- Master's degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school diploma / GED with at least 8 years of BWR nuclear experience)
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and resolve problems
- Demonstrated ability to lead programs / projects
- Ability to document, plan, market, and execute programs
- Strong preference for candidate who could relocate to Wilmington, NC
