Senior Software Engineer, Foundations Data Science - Experimentation

Instacart is transforming the grocery industry by providing an essential service that customers rely on for grocery delivery. They are seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join the Experimentation Platform team to design and build internal A/B testing and metrics platforms, enabling data-informed product decisions and empowering teams across the company.

Responsibilities:

• You will be part of a small team, with a large amount of ownership and surface area given that the tooling is used by the entire company
• You will work closely with other teams to understand their main pain points around experimentation and translate them into user-friendly and reliable solutions
• You will have the freedom to suggest and drive new initiatives
• You are expected to mentor other team members and be a champion of engineering excellence

Requirements:

• Strong sense of ownership, with the ability to independently drive work from problem definition to delivery, and a willingness to learn and adopt emerging, AI-first technologies
• Solid experience with common data infrastructure technologies—such as Python, Airflow, Snowflake, and dbt—in a production environment
• Experience contributing to a large, shared codebase and collaborating effectively with cross-functional partners, including data scientists, product managers, and engineers
• Strong proficiency in SQL, with experience writing, debugging, and optimizing queries for analytical and production use cases
• Strong knowledge of React and experience building and maintaining user-facing web applications
• 6+ years of professional experience in a similar engineering role or technical environment
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science, Electrical Engineering) or equivalent practical experience
• A background in statistics or hands-on experience with A/B testing is a plus
