The Business Analyst in Risk & Insurance will be responsible for payment processing, records maintenance, financial support, budget assistance, and claims preparation.
Responsibilities:
- Confirm insurance premium payments are sent in a timely manner to avoid lapses in OHSU coverage
- Works with claims managers and captive management on timely claims related payments via check and wire
- Initiate and oversee wire payment requests
- Coordinate with Facilities and other departments on Journal Entry processing for Property claim reimbursement
- Maintains meticulous records of all department and captive insurance program financial transactions, performs bank reconciliations, and assists outside auditors with scheduled audits
- Responsible for initiating weekly transfer with captive insurance manager for payments, including any adjustments; creating monthly reimbursement report accounting for all captive insurance company expenses; prepare annual reports for actuarial review
- Prepares accurate and timely financial reports for VP/Chief Risk Officer, captive manager, OHSU departments and auditors
- Responsible for financial interactions/activities with INSCO, CFS and Risk Management staff as outlined in payment process/procedure
- Routine finance and accounting functions including journal entries, general ledger reconciliation and payment of invoices
- At the direction of VP/Chief Risk Officer, communicate and obtain payment authority levels from Central Finance Services for Risk Management staff
- Update documentation of staff payment and reserve authority levels
- Prepares incoming checks for deposit and identifies account string that should be credited
- Analyze three separate insurance focused Risk Management budgets and assist VP/Chief Risk Officer with budget forecasting
- Monthly review of department budget to ensure expenditures are allocated to correct budget and line item
- Work with Central Financial Services as needed to reconcile budget
- Review budgetary and other financial reports for accuracy
- Present financial reports to VP/Chief Risk Officer monthly and communicate required updates/changes with Central Finance Services and department as required
- Work with Associate Directors to track and prepare Bordereau reports of claims to send to excess carriers
- Manage weekly loss advice notices to insurance carriers and track acknowledgments
- Assist with preparing documentation of claims costs for reimbursement
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business, Insurance or 5 years of equivalent experience in insurance business operations
- Experience working in an office environment performing fiscal assistance/accounting related tasks
- Knowledge of administrative processes related to insurance/administrative/legal needs such as document management, ability to handle confidential information, ability to meet important deadlines
- Familiar with risk/legal/insurance issues
- Requires hard working team player; excellent interpersonal and organization skills; ability to work independently with minimal supervision; excellent professional judgement; ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; excellent work ethic
- Ability to multi-task, organize, and prioritize workload
- High level knowledge of Excel (manipulate data, create graphs, pivot tables), Word, PowerPoint
- Experience in property/casualty insurance, healthcare, higher education or government agency
- Work with self-insurance or captive insurance programs
- Familiar with operations of a mature self-insurance or captive insurance program
- Familiarity with claims database or similar
- Familiarity with sending out notices to insurance carriers and tracking acknowledgements
- Insurance industry specific designation such as CPCU (Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter) or AIAF (Associate in Insurance Accounting and Finance)
