Republic Services, Inc. is a leader in the environmental services industry, and they are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Engineer responsible for the technical architecture, planning, and implementation of enterprise Linux Systems across various environments. The role involves evaluating project requirements, supporting AWS services, and providing tier 3 level support for Linux-based servers and applications.
Responsibilities:
- Completes performance engineering to ensure high availability and reliability of critical Linux server infrastructure
- Oversees security compliance with configuration management, patch management, and version control
- Provides guidance, mentors staff and acts as technical escalation point for the team
- Utilizes a strong ability to troubleshoot, identifies Linux issues and performs Root Cause Analysis
- Works with Solution Architects and Application Owners/Developers to architect, configure, and deploy applications requiring Linux environment
- Works with software application developers to architect, configure, and deploy applications requiring Linux environment
- Generates innovative approaches and solutions to recurring tasks or problems
- Documents technical problems, resolutions, and processes for assigned tasks and projects
- Follows policies and procedures for change and incident management
- Stays current on industry trends and new technologies and recommends future initiatives
- Develops strong vendor relationships to resolve problems and coordinates the delivery of IT products and services
- Provides on-call support on a rotation schedule
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned or apparent
Requirements:
- High School or GED. (Required)
- Minimum 8+ years of experience designing and supporting systems running Linux distributions such as Redhat, Ubuntu and/or CentOS. (Required)
- Minimum 3+ years using Orchestration and Continuous Integration tools, (Terraform, Jenkins). (Required)
- Minimum 4+ years of Virtualization (VMWare, Docker, Kubernetes). (Required)
- Strong understanding of scripting tools such as Perl, Bash, PHP, etc. (Required)
- Advanced understanding of security concepts. (i.e. Active Directory, NTFS permissions, security auditing, security user contexts, application layer vulnerabilities, etc.)
- Demonstrated knowledge and previous experience with Amazon Web Services (EC2, EBS, ECS, RDS, VPC, IAM)
- Strong knowledge of server/storage hardware and protocols (NFS, CFS, CIFS, iSCSI)
- Desired 2+ years of Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform experience
- Desired 3+ years of coding with Python
