Colovore is the leader in ultra-high-density, liquid-cooled AI colocation data centers. They are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to support the design, construction, and operation of their high-density data centers, overseeing multidisciplined design teams and ensuring mechanical systems are reliable and efficient.
Responsibilities:
- Support the design and specification of mechanical infrastructure including liquid-to-liquid and liquid-to-air cooling systems, rear-door heat exchangers, in-row/in-rack CDUs, CRAH and Fan Wall systems, heat exchangers, primary/secondary pump systems, looped data hall mechanical piping, PLC-based BMS control systems, and ventilation systems
- Oversee mechanical system design and implementation including review of MEP engineering consultant designs, controls design document review, sequence of operations review and development, review and approval of mechanical and control system submittals, and verification of mechanical/controls compliance with Owner Project Requirements (OPR)
- Provide review and approval of air and liquid interior/exterior CFD studies/reports
- Guide the development of mechanical system layouts, equipment sizing, and engineering calculations
- Analyze system performance, thermal loading, and airflow dynamics to inform design decisions
- Review design drawings, submittals, and shop documents for accuracy and constructability
- Lead external architectural, civil/structural, and MEP engineering teams during site selection, design development, and permitting
- Support construction teams with RFI responses, design clarifications, installation oversight, and mechanical construction QA/QC
- Participate in factory witness testing, commissioning, and integrated systems testing for new builds and retrofits
- Write mechanical equipment specifications and evaluate vendor proposals to ensure alignment with capacity and performance requirements
- Manage as-constructed Revit models for Colovore internal use including development of digital twins
- Support operations teams in troubleshooting, tuning, and optimizing mechanical systems across active data centers
- Perform root-cause analysis and recommend corrective actions for mechanical issues or performance deviations
- Analyze operational data to identify efficiency improvements, reliability enhancements, and capacity-planning insights
- Assist in drafting, updating, and reviewing Methods of Procedure (MOPs) related to mechanical system operation and maintenance
- Collaborate with Electrical Engineers, Controls Engineers, Operations, and Facilities teams to ensure proper mechanical system integration and operational effectiveness
- Work with Development, Finance, and Business Units to provide mechanical design input for feasibility studies and cost models
- Support sustainability initiatives, energy-efficiency improvements, and innovation in high-density liquid cooling approaches
- Write, update and maintain mechanical system documentation, including Owner’s Project Requirements (OPR), engineering specifications, record (as-built) design documents, equipment vendor information, factory test and commissioning test results, and system performance analyses
- Prepare technical reports, engineering summaries, and recommendations for internal and external stakeholders
- Ensure all mechanical engineering work aligns with regulatory, code, safety, and security compliance requirements
Requirements:
- Minimum 7 years of mechanical engineering experience in data center design & construction
- Minimum 3 years of leading and mentoring mid-level and entry level engineers and designer
- Hands-on experience leading and executing data center mechanical system design, construction administration, all levels of commissioning, and operations support
- Familiarity with ASHRAE standards, building codes, and data center mechanical engineering best practices
- Ability to manage external consultants, vendors, and contractors
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline; PE preferred
- Proven experience designing concurrently maintainable, high-availability HVAC systems with a focus on liquid-cooling in mission-critical environments
- Hands-on experience with PLC-based control system design, sensor/transducer applications, sequences of operation, and control system commissioning
- Ability to perform engineering calculations (PUE/WUE, thermal loading, pump/pipe sizing, airflow, pressure drop, etc.)
- Familiarity with cooling strategies such as various air-cooled chiller technologies (screw compressor, magnetic bearing), thermal energy storage systems, adiabatic/dry coolers, and in-row/in-rack CDUs
- Experience leading engineering consultant design teams in coordination with architects, civil/structural engineers, and specialty consultants (environmental/acoustical)
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose system issues and recommend solutions
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, for interfacing with vendors, contractors, and internal teams
- Ability to collaborate across engineering disciplines and construction/operations functions
- Familiarity with current engineering design tools such as AutoCAD, Revit, CFD modeling software, etc
- Strong attention to detail, documentation habits, and project follow-through
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with multiple ongoing projects
