Cable One/Sparklight is dedicated to connecting customers and associates to what matters most. The Network Automation Engineer II will develop and maintain automation for network engineering workflows, collaborate with network engineers, and assist in defining best practices and standards.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain Python and Ansible automations for network engineering workflows
- Program backend automation tasks for provisioning and deploying networking equipment and adjacent backend systems
- Work with APIs and data pipelines
- Participate in code demonstrations
- Write low level design documentation and some high level design documentation
- Troubleshoot and optimize automations
- Collaborate with senior engineers to assist in defining best practices and standards
- Collaborate directly with network engineers and stakeholders to create and interpret user requirements for Agile user stories and features
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Similar Fields is Preferred
- Alternatively, 5 + Years Experience in Network Engineering with strong Hands-On Experience with Network Automation and scripting in Python will be considered
- Strong Experience programming in Python
- Strong Experience in backend automation, API development and data structures
- Strong Familiarity with databases (SQL)
- Experience with web applications using Javascript and React
- Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift)
- Solid understanding of DevOps Best Practices and CI/CD workflows
- Experience with network automation technologies such as NETCONF, Netmiko, NAPALM, TextFSM, SNMP, Direct CLI, and Ansible network modules
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment under the direction of senior engineers or analysts
- Must be adaptable and willing to learn new technologies and methods as part of ongoing development
- Position may require occasional on-call availability to support data pipeline monitoring or issue resolution
- Position may require up to 10% travel
- Basic experience with data processing or pipeline tools (e.g., Apache Airflow, Talend), gained through coursework, projects, or internships
