Crossing Hurdles is seeking an Energy Engineer specializing in AI evaluation to translate technical specifications into system designs. The role involves validating energy projections and assessing integrated energy systems using AI tools.
Responsibilities:
- Translate property specifications into technical system design envelopes, including roofing, load analysis, interconnection, structural considerations, and code compliance
- Produce and validate energy output and demand projections (annual kWh, load profiles, round-trip efficiency, heat pump COP/SCOP)
- Evaluate cross-system interactions such as PV-to-storage charging windows, heat pump load shifts, and EVSE demand spikes
- Identify constructibility and permitting constraints and recommend technically feasible alternatives
- Assess sizing accuracy and feasibility of integrated energy systems using AI evaluation tools and structured rubrics
- Validate efficiency assumptions and production estimates to ensure reliability and technical accuracy
- Document findings clearly and communicate technical insights effectively to support informed decision-making
Requirements:
- Proven experience in energy engineering, renewable energy modeling, or system design validation
- Demonstrated experience evaluating or annotating AI models using rubric-based assessments
- Expertise in prompt creation, instruction tuning, CoT data generation, or similar AI evaluation methodologies
- Strong understanding of structural and electrical constraints across PV, storage, heat pump, and EVSE systems
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex technical data
- Ability to work independently using remote collaboration tools in a distributed environment
