The Manufacturing Engineer will drive manufacturing-optimized designs in the product development cycle, collaborating with various teams to ensure efficient and feasible vehicle assembly processes.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with product design team to drive a lean manufacturing, assembly friendly feasible and efficient design for new model vehicles through detailed analyses
- Collaborate with the Manufacturing Core Organizations on the development of the build sequence, installation processes, and tooling strategies for new product launches
- Quantify manufacturing and facility impact to launch new model programs including facility, tooling, labor
- Identify and lead resolution of assembly feasibility issues
- Collaborate regularly with the Product Development team to generate facility & tooling impact, improve quality, and reduce labor requirements
- Use virtual tools, such as AutoCAD, Vault, TeamCenter, and Vismockup to evaluate the feasibility of new model designs for assembly operations
- Write, modify and maintain process sheets and deliver updated Cycle Line Layouts
- Review all product designs/concepts to ensure they adhere to our Global manufacturing requirements
- Evaluate "Lessons Learned" from New Model launches and implement Prevent Reoccurrence Actions into future programs and support developing lessons learned from launches with ability to implement prevent reoccurrence actions
- Attend benchmarking events and develop next-generation ideas to optimize for efficient production and ensure our competitiveness
- Evaluate competitive vehicle information relative to manufacturing end items, sub-assemblies, components, and fastening and drive into program actions
- Collaborate with multi-functional groups (Program Implementation Teams, Product Development, Marketing, Program Planning, Supplier Technical Assistance, Material Planning & Logistics, New Model Programs) in early product planning workshops
- Travel to our North American Assembly Plants for site reviews and to support future program launch
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related degree; or foreign equivalency degree, or a combination of equivalent experience and education
- 3-5 years of experience in Manufacturing Final assembly (Trim- interior or exterior or Chassis-Powertrain, Brakes, Frames, Suspension, Subframes)
- Experience utilizing 3D CAD (Teamcenter, VisMockup, CATIA, or equivalent)
- Proficient in Microsoft Tools
- Open to travel
- Experience in PFMEA and failure mode avoidance
- Ability to launch
