They are seeking a highly skilled Oil & Gas Title Attorney to provide expert legal guidance on land and title issues within the oil and gas sector. This role involves drafting and analyzing title opinions, engaging in legal research, and representing the company in various legal proceedings.
Responsibilities:
- Provide comprehensive legal advice and support on a wide range of oil and gas matters, including exploration, production, transportation, and sales activities
- Draft and review title opinions, identifying defects, liens, encumbrances, or other issues that may affect ownership rights or operational use of properties
- Analyze legal documents such as leases, deeds, contracts, and other land-related instruments to ensure compliance and accuracy
- Advise internal teams on legal risks and ensure adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and industry best practices
- Represent the company in legal proceedings, including litigation, arbitration, and negotiations related to land and title disputes
- Collaborate with land, operations, and compliance departments to develop effective risk mitigation strategies
- Stay current with industry trends, legal developments, and regulatory changes affecting the oil and gas sector
- Provide training and guidance to other departments on legal issues related to land, titles, and regulatory compliance
Requirements:
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in at least one state
- Minimum of two years of experience in oil and gas title examination and related legal work
- Proficiency in negotiating and drafting oil and gas agreements
- Strong analytical skills
- Attention to detail
- Ability to interpret complex legal documents
- Solid understanding of relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards impacting land and title issues in the oil and gas sector
- Experience outside Texas, especially in the Bakken, Oklahoma, and New Mexico regions
