GE Vernova is a company focused on building a world that works, and they are seeking a Substation Automation and Protection Engineer. This role involves engineering and field services for Substation Automation Systems and Protection/Control panels, while coordinating with various teams to ensure project milestones are met and customer satisfaction is achieved.
Responsibilities:
- Take ownership of the engineering and field services for Substation Automation Systems, including DCS and RTU
- Handle the engineering and field services for Protection, Control, and Tele-Protection panels
- Lead and develop the technical team by providing training, mentorship, and day-to-day technical support
- Analyze customer requirements and specifications, and propose innovative, cost-effective technical solutions
- Design substation LAN networks and communication architectures, and configure industrial Ethernet switches, routers, and satellite clocks/time synchronization systems
- Participate with the Project Manager in meetings with customers, end users, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders
- Support project planning to help ensure key milestones are achieved according to the project schedule
- Follow the department’s standard design processes and contribute to their continuous improvement
- Support Sales and Tendering teams
- Prepare and deliver customer training sessions, ensuring high levels of customer satisfaction
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical, Electronics, Control, or Communications Engineering, or a closely related technical field from an accredited institution
- Minimum 1 year of hands-on experience in the Testing and Commissioning of Protection Relays and DCS (IEC 61850) for electrical power substations HV/EHV
- Knowledge of sequencing and interlocking principles used in substation automation and their implementation on IEC 61850 IEDs
- Working knowledge of communication and automation protocols such as IEC 61850, MODBUS, IEC 60870-5-101/104, T103, and SNMP
- Good understanding of IT/OT networking; CCNA certification or equivalent is preferred
- Skills in MS Office
- Ability and willingness to travel within and outside the country without limitations, as required
- Fluency in English and Arabic (oral, reading, and writing)
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills, with the ability to lead technical teams and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
- Solid understanding of Egypt-specific customer solutions and product specifications
- Strong analytical capability to quickly understand challenges and guide effective, customer‑focused solutions
- Proven problem‑solving skills with a focus on innovative and creative solutions that support profitability and market growth
- Clear and effective written and verbal communication skills with both internal and external stakeholders
- Confidence in presenting technical information and delivering training to varied audiences
- Experience working with Egyptian utilities, oil & gas customers, EPCs, OEMs, and system integrators
- Proactive, energetic, and collaborative work style with a strong team orientation
- Fast learner with a strong interest in adopting new technologies and continuously enhancing technical capabilities
