Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is seeking a Principal System Design Engineer – FACTS & HVDC to provide technical leadership and innovation in FACTS and HVDC solutions. The role involves overseeing advanced design studies, pioneering equipment development, and collaborating globally to enhance the reliability and efficiency of North America’s power infrastructure.
Responsibilities:
- Lead Cutting-Edge Design: Oversee and drive advanced design studies for FACTS and HVDC systems, tackling challenges like harmonic filter design, loss calculations, noise analysis, and control performance
- Innovate Equipment Development: Pioneer new methods and improvements in the design and rating of FACTS and HVDC equipment, including power electronic converters and large power transformers
- Elevate System Performance: Provide expert consultation on protection, control systems, and operational strategies, while guiding commissioning testing and troubleshooting of FACTS and HVDC systems in the field
- Collaborate Globally: Work with Mitsubishi Electric’s global engineering teams to shape the future of FACTS and HVDC technologies, sharing insights from industry trends and emerging innovations
- Support Strategic Growth: Partner with sales teams to develop compelling technical proposals, lead customer presentations, and influence industry standards through active participation in technical committees
- Design one-line diagrams and perform critical analyses, including harmonic filtering, loss calculations, and control performance studies
- Coordinate system design through equipment factory tests and real-time digital simulator testing
- Mentor field engineers, troubleshoot systems, and deliver timely solutions to installation and operational challenges
- Develop and maintain design standards, ensuring cost-effective and uniform practices
- Influence industry trends by engaging with trade organizations and maintaining a robust network of contacts
- Drive cost reduction initiatives while ensuring the highest levels of system reliability and performance
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Power Electronics Engineering with 10+ years of experience in FACTS or HVDC system engineering
- Advanced knowledge of power electronics, substation theory, protection, and control, along with harmonic filtering design methods
- Ability to conceptualize innovative solutions and improve existing designs to meet evolving market needs
- Advanced interpersonal, presentation, and technical writing abilities to effectively engage with customers, teams, and stakeholders
- Proficiency with MATLAB, Simulink, and power system simulation software, as well as advanced Microsoft Office skills
- A strong ability to analyze market needs and develop product roadmaps that shape the future of power transmission
