Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is a leader in North America's power systems, rail transportation, and large visual display markets. The Principal Engineer, Data Center Studies, will lead business growth and deliver consulting and system studies for Electric Reliability Organizations, focusing on transmission and distribution system planning and operations.
Responsibilities:
- Drive Business Growth: Lead the expansion of consulting and system studies, specifically focusing on the data center market segment
- Strategic Planning: Identify market opportunities, shape service offerings, and contribute to long-term strategic initiatives for MEPPI
- Industry Representation: Serve as a recognized leader by actively participating in key forums such as NERC, IEEE, and CIGRE to maintain company visibility
- Primary SME: Act as the lead Subject Matter Expert for Data Center consulting, supporting both internal teams and external clients
- T&D Specialization: Focus on transmission and distribution (T&D) system planning, interconnection, operations, and equipment application
- Lifecycle Support: Track and support infrastructure development from the early-stage conceptual phase through full implementation
- Advanced Power System Studies: Conduct and oversee load flow, fault, dynamic, and protection studies tailored to high-availability facilities
- Grid Impact Assessment: Evaluate the specific impacts of large-scale data centers on the broader transmission system
- Modeling & Simulation: Utilize industry-standard software, specifically PSCAD and PSS®E, to analyze grid stability and large-scale electrical system behavior
- Client Relations: Act as the Business Development lead, fostering relationships with EROs, developers, and public and investor-owned utilities
- Technical Excellence: Ensure the delivery of high-quality technical solutions that advance MEPPI's reputation in the rapidly growing data center market
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with emphasis on electric power engineering, or equivalent technical discipline
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in power systems studies consulting field, electric utility system planning, or T&D manufacturer's application engineering, or equivalent education and experience in areas key to the position
- Advanced knowledge of EROs, developers, and public and investor-owned utility business planning flow as related to initial feasibility, planning, engineering, implementation, and operations stages
- Advanced knowledge of regulatory, compliance, and resource/capacity/strategy assessment
- General knowledge of asset and operations management, environmental policy, and system hardening
- Advanced organization, presentation, communication, and technical writing skills
- Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work in a team environment and on several projects simultaneously
- Advanced computer skills with emphasis on MS Office products
- Advanced knowledge of the following tools/software: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related; PSCAD, PSS/E, and related
- Advanced knowledge of industry standards and guides (NESC, NERC, IEEE, IEC, and CIGRE)
