Communication Technology Services (CTS) is an industry leader in in-building and campus cellular managed services. The Engineer, In-Building RF Design and Deployment will design cellular DAS systems, manage deployments, and ensure compliance with mobile operator requirements while working collaboratively with project management teams.
Responsibilities:
- Review and optimize existing iBwave DAS designs for carrier compliance (band plans, sectorization, head-end topology)
- Refine designs to meet coverage, capacity, zoning, and venue constraints
- Create and manage mobile submittal packages through final approval
- Develop project-specific signal source bill of material aligned with technical, operational, and financial objectives
- Review CIQs and ensure sites are installed and cabled correctly for signal source commissioning activities
- Coordinate with onsite System Performance Engineers (SPEs) and when required, perform the SPE role: Commission signal sources through coordination with carriers and OEM personnel, assist in optimizing DAS, set gains/AGC, balance UL/DL, manage noise floors, and mitigate PIM/oscillation/pilot pollution
- Plan and oversee the execution of any necessary acceptance testing: e911, Functional Call Test, walk testing
- Coordinate post installation data collection activities, create close out packages, and resolve any open issues with the submitted packages
- Ensure measurable KPIs (e.g., =95% design-area coverage to spec, session retention targets, throughput) are met within the close-out reports
Requirements:
- Proven iBwave skills (Level 3 certification or equivalent) with sufficient previous experience to review designs, identify improvements, make necessary changes and optimize
- In-building wireless experience with proficiency across various DAS OEMs (ADRF, Corning, CommScope, JMA, SOLiD) and operator-grade small cells (Ericsson, Nokia, Samsung, Airspan/SpiderCloud)
- Past experience with commissioning and optimization to ensure field teams are performing the work correctly
- Experience creating or reviewing mobile operator submittal packages with a broad understanding of the operator's design requirements and expectations
- Experience working within groups using comprehensive project management tools to guide and track deployment activities
- Demonstrated ability for prioritizing activities, time management and organizing work activities
- Demonstrated project execution in multi-site programs with remote field teams; excellent documentation and stakeholder communication
- Highly motivated and self-driven with ability to identify and complete tasks without direct supervision
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to troubleshoot network problems and work under pressure during both business hours and if called upon, in off-hours
- OEM certifications (any of ADRF/Corning/CommScope/JMA/SOLiD)
- Cellular network operator integration experience with AT&T, Verizon, and/or T-Mobile
- Experience with DAS-alternative neutral-host architectures (Ericsson Radio Dot, Andrew OneCell)
- Experience creating CIQs and other configuration activities on cellular radio systems such as Ericsson, Nokia, or Commscope
- BS/BA in Engineering (or equivalent experience in RF/DAS systems)
