Senior AI Engineer

Orion Groups is a professional services firm based in McKinney, Texas that provides experienced consultants to key organizations across the United States. They are seeking a Senior AI Engineer to build AI capabilities for enterprise healthcare, focusing on improving clinical workflows and operational efficiency. The role involves collaborating with data engineering teams and leading technical delivery in an Agile environment.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with data engineering team to design and develop ML/AL systems for healthcare use cases that is auditable and HIPAA-compliant
• Help establish tooling and processes
• Lead technical delivery and mentor other engineers in an Agile environment
• Perform POCs, spikes, and tool evaluations to determine adoption across the organization
• Hand off POCs to DevOps for wider deployment
• Focus on operational efficiency use cases, with potential for additional use cases later
• Backend focused; help with UI when needed
• Lead and contribute with strong ambiguity tolerance plus no on-call expectations

Requirements:

• Deep experience as a seasoned Python developer
• Hands-on experience building AI integrations and understanding AI/ML Ops workflows
• Knowledge of frontier LLMs (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.) and able to assess which model fits use case
• Cloud experience required; GCP preferred but Azure/AWS acceptable
• Strong experience with data tools: SQL, Spark/Databricks, feature stores, and production data engineering practices
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science
• Experience with two or more ML/AL frameworks preferred (PyTorch, TensorFlow, HuggingFace)
• Nice to have: healthcare industry experience along with NodeJS, LangChain, LangGraph exposure, UI/UX understanding
