New York Life Insurance Company is evolving into a more technology-, data-, and AI-enabled organization. The Data Scientist will partner with business and technical operational leaders to leverage data and analytical tools to provide insights and develop predictive models to address complex business problems.
Responsibilities:
- Translates business needs into analytics/reporting requirements to promote high quality code, high availability and stable systems, and autonomous operations
- Performs large-scale experimentation and builds data-driven models t extractinginsights from system logs, cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, databases, etc
- Researches and implements cutting-edge techniques and tools in machine learning/deep learning/artificial intelligence to make data analysis more efficient
- Collects and preprocesses large amount of structured and unstructured data
- Conducts Exploratory Data Analysis to uncover patterns, spot anomalies, and test hypotheses
- Applies statistical analysis and visualization techniques to various data, such as hierarchical clustering, principal components analysis (PCA) machine learning
- Designs and conducts data analyses with the highest standard of rigor and scientific accuracy; this includes study design, methodology, algorithms, and statistical modeling
Requirements:
- At least six years of relevant project experience in successfully launching, planning, and executing data science projects, including statistical analysis, data engineering, and data visualization
- Proven experience in conducting statistical analysis and building models with advanced scripting languages
- Experience leading projects that apply ML and data science to business functions
- Fluency in multiple programming languages and statistical analysis tools such as Python, C++, JavaScript, R, SAS, Excel, SQL, MATLAB, SPSS
- Experience with Tableau and other visualization tools
- Knowledge of distributed data/computing tools such as MapReduce, Hadoop, Hive, or Kafka
- Solid understanding and experience with model evaluation and tuning techniques
- Strong understanding of AI, its potential roles in solving business problems, and the future trajectory of generative AI models
- Experience with cloud platforms (e,g, AWS, Azure, Salesforce)
- Willingness and ability to learn new technologies on the job
- Ability to communicate complex projects, models, and results to a diverse audience including non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to work in diverse, cross-functional teams in a dynamic business environment
- Superior presentation skills, including storytelling and other techniques to guide and inspire
- A bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or a related field
- Candidates will ideally have a specialization in ML or AI
- Specialization in text analytics, image recognition, graph analysis, or other specialized ML techniques, such as deep learning
