Benesch is a growing, multi-disciplined planning, engineering, and professional services firm that enhances infrastructure and communities across the country. They are looking for a Traffic Project Engineer to deliver technical leadership on rail-traffic and safety projects, manage traffic studies, prepare engineering analyses, and oversee the technical execution of deliverables while mentoring junior staff.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct traffic operations and safety analyses for rail grade crossings and associated roadway projects
- Prepare preliminary and final design plans, specifications, and engineering calculations
- Coordinate drafting of project deliverables and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and mentor junior engineers
- Build and maintain client relationships, including local and state transportation agencies
- Represent Benesch at industry and professional events
Requirements:
- B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- 5–10 years of experience in rail/traffic engineering, grade crossing design, or related transportation work
- Experience working with public agencies and municipalities
- Strong knowledge of traffic operations, signal design, safety analyses, and roadway design
- Proficiency with CADD, Synchro, GIS, and other traffic modeling or design software
- Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage project deliverables, and mentor staff
- Excellent communication, client relations, and organizational skills
- PTOE a plus
- State DOT experience preferred
