Ampirical is shaping the future of the power grid with precision, innovation, and purpose. The SCADA Engineer will develop and implement SCADA configurations for utility and data center projects, configure control systems, and troubleshoot communication issues to support system performance.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement SCADA configurations for utility and data center projects
- Define system topology, data flow, and communication pathways
- Develop system standards and engineering guidelines
- Develop automation logic and control strategies
- Create and maintain engineering drawings and diagrams
- Maintain system specifications and design documentation
- Develop and maintain point assignment sheets in collaboration with substation design engineers
- Configure and maintain control systems and databases to support new SCADA device installations and updates
- Configure real-time data acquisition, alarms, trends, events, and applications
- Build and maintain point databases and tag structures
- Build and maintain historical databases
- Customize vendor SCADA platforms by creating reports, dashboards, and HMI/SCADA screens
- Maintain and update SCADA software versions per manufacturer recommendation
- Manage configuration backups and version control
- Apply and optimize communication and network parameters as defined by network engineering teams. (DNP3, Modbus, IEC61850, etc.)
- Diagnose and resolve data communication issues in coordination with system operators and relay test personnel
- Analyze logs, errors, and system events to identify root causes and resolve real time system performance problems
- Troubleshoot system issues during startup and commissioning and provide ongoing operational support for SCADA
- Remotely program field devices such as reclosers and capacitor banks for new installations, failed equipment replacements, and downstream protection updates
- When required, travel to job sites to configure, troubleshoot and implement SCADA configurations
- Maintain and update controller, IED, RTU, and communication devices firmware and configurations
- Support energization and cutover activities
Requirements:
- 2–5 years of relevant work experience in SCADA Master systems or automation engineering
- Strong computer skills with the ability to learn and apply complex system configurations
- Solid attendance record and professional work ethic
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field preferred. Equivalent experience may substitute for degree requirements
- Degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
- 2–5 years of experience in the electric utility industry
- Hands-on experience with SCADA systems and smart grid technologies (e.g., SEL relays, RTUs, gateways)
- Familiarity with distribution/transmission protection schemes and relay testing procedures
- Survalent experience preferred
