CRH is North America’s leading provider of innovative outdoor living solutions. The Geotechnical Engineer is responsible for providing professional engineering and sales counsel related to the design and performance of concrete retaining walls, and supporting various Oldcastle companies as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Establish the standards of design (methodology, minimum factors of safety, etc.) for all retaining wall plans, whether preliminary, final, or otherwise, issued by or on behalf of Oldcastle
- Ensure the suitability of all Anchor Diamond blocks for their intended functions. As new products are developed, review them from a functional perspective, and issue and maintain written reports as to their suitability for their intended functional applications
- Identify the needs of design professionals with respect to performance data respecting Anchor Diamond blocks, obtain such data, and maintain it
- Ensure the suitability of Anchor Diamond design/estimating software, design manuals and other design literature for its intended purpose
- Review, maintain, and update Anchor Diamond design/estimating software and manuals as needed
- Obtain necessary approvals of Anchor Diamond and Belgard products from review bodies and regulatory bodies (HITEC, ICC, DOT, ETC.), and maintain records regarding same
- Stay current with industry developments, attend industry meetings as necessary
- Act as the technical representative for Oldcastle to the industry
- Coordinate/supervise all forensic work related to performance of retaining walls constructed with Anchor Diamond and Belgard blocks
- Provide Engineering Services to key accounts as directed by the VP of Commercial Hardscapes
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- 5+ years' experience as a geotechnical engineer
- A high degree of technical skill is required to understand both technical product and application information
- Good written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills are necessary to work effectively with others in the company as well as industry and customer personnel
- Proficiency in a variety of computer-based applications including computer aided design, word processing and spreadsheets
- Observing manufacture of product, which may require exposure to dirt, dust, dampness, construction debris, extreme weather conditions and temperatures, heavy equipment and noises, and other attributes common to such sites
- Strong project management abilities
- Travel up to 50%
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering and certification as a Professional Engineer
