Orbital Engineering, Inc. has been providing professional engineering and consulting services for over 50 years, focusing on innovative engineering solutions. They are seeking an Instrument & Controls Engineer to provide technical support and oversight for heavy industrial instrumentation projects, ensuring quality and compliance throughout project execution.
Responsibilities:
- Review client requests for proposals and scopes of work. Act as Orbital representative at bid walkdowns. Prepare manhour estimates and proposals
- Lead instrumentation project engineering and develop contractor construction packages including instrument datasheets, P&IDs, equipment plans, cable/conduit routing plans, interconnecting wiring diagrams, loop diagrams and scopes of work. For larger projects, coordinate with other engineers and designers as required to execute the scope. Review calculations and deliverables for completeness and accuracy prior to issuance to client
- Support regional business development initiatives as a technical resource
- Drive internal and external quality and design review meetings throughout the course of the project
- Develop, maintain and upgrade technical standards/specifications to be used on specific projects
- Complete all tasks in accordance with design and project execution procedures and guidelines as set forth in corporate Quality Management System
Requirements:
- Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Systems or Industrial Engineering from an accredited university is required
- 7+ years of professional experience
- Familiar with process systems associated with the Midstream Oil & Gas, Refineries & Petrochemical, Power Generation industries
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or SPI
- Knowledge and application of company department design and drafting standards
- Ability to recognize and communicate scope and design changes promptly
- Interest in keeping updated knowledge in instrumentation and technology
- Knowledge and application of standards (ISA) that apply to instrumentation and controls
- Knowledge and application of the current version of the NFPA 70, National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Proficient in reading, understanding and revising engineering drawings including P&ID's and PFD's
- Ability to produce specifications and data sheets for instrumentation, analyzers, and actuated valves
- Experience and knowledge to specify equipment required for control systems (PLC's/DCS's) and attend FAT/SAT for the those equipment. Programming of PLC's/DCS's is not required for this position
- Ability to produce Cabinet Fabrication Drawings, Instrument Loop Diagrams, Logic diagrams, Instrument Installation Details, Control Schematics, etc
- Knowledge of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all Instrumentation deliverables
- Ability to develop construction cost estimates, detailed engineering schedules and a man-hour estimates for small and medium size projects
- Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill and ability to route conduit and cable tray
- Availability for On-site assistance during startup and commissioning
