Principal Data Engineer

RegEd is the market-leading provider of RegTech enterprise solutions with a focus on compliance and risk management. The Principal Data Engineer will lead a team of database professionals, optimizing database performance and ensuring reliable data access across the organization.

Responsibilities:

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of database engineers
• Analyze and optimize SQL queries, execution plans, and indexing strategies to improve application performance
• Provide production support and manage incident response through our ticketing system
• Build automation and custom tooling to reduce operational overhead and database implementation costs
• Design and execute migrations for Azure SQL compliance
• Implement CI/CD pipelines for database schema deployments and data changes
• Partner with development teams to establish patterns that scale data access across the organization
• Manage team workload, priorities, and capacity planning
• Contribute to standards, documentation, and knowledge sharing that elevate the team's overall capability

Requirements:

• 10+ years hands-on experience with SQL Server, including performance tuning and optimization
• 3+ years leading or mentoring technical teams
• Experience with Azure SQL and cloud database migrations
• Proficiency building automation scripts and tooling (PowerShell, Python, or similar)
• CI/CD experience deploying database schemas (Liquibase, Flyway, or similar)
• Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort with production support responsibilities
• Knowledge of the financial services / insurance / securities compliance industry's concepts, practices, and procedures a plus
• Familiarity with database DevOps practices and infrastructure-as-code
• Masters' Degree in a related field
