Staff Software Engineer

People In AI is a well-funded, early-stage AI startup dedicated to building a next-gen research assistant powered by large language models. They are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to design and build scalable backend services, collaborate with ML engineers, and lead architectural decisions to enhance AI-driven workflows.

Responsibilities:

• Design and build scalable backend services that power AI-driven workflows
• Own features end to end, from database design and APIs to frontend delivery
• Collaborate with ML engineers to productionize models and support real-time inference
• Lead architectural decisions across services, infrastructure, and application layers
• Improve system reliability, performance, and developer experience across the stack

Requirements:

• Experience building and scaling production-grade distributed systems
• Strong backend expertise in Python or Node.js; comfortable designing APIs and data models
• Solid frontend skills with TypeScript, Next.js, and modern frameworks
• Experience deploying and operating ML-powered applications in production
• A systems mindset with attention to performance, reliability, and maintainability
• High agency, startup experience, and a low-ego, collaborative approach
