Juul Labs is dedicated to transitioning adult smokers away from combustible cigarettes through exceptional quality and innovation. The Reliability Test Engineer will work within the Reliability team to support testing and ensure product reliability throughout the product life cycle, while also engaging in cross-functional collaboration to drive continuous improvement projects.
Responsibilities:
- Reporting to the Manager of Reliability, you will work within the Reliability team alongside the Failure Analysis team to clearly communicate and address leading technical risks and characteristic reliability associated with Juul products and processes
- Support reliability testing for New Production Introduction and Sustaining products, from early prototype development through the product life cycle to field returns and post-market modifications and improvements
- Support Ongoing Reliability Test activities by performing tests on products manufactured at various contract manufacturers sites, to ensure consistency across all product lines and locations
- Support all PMTA submission filings by providing accurate and timely test results and data collection to meet requirements
- Collect test results and data files to report test status to engineering and R&D teams
- Support the supplier qualification process for new or modified components, materials, or processes
- Create case studies and experiments to characterize the effects of variability in material, process, manufacturing, environment, and consumer use
- Drive continuous improvement projects to reduce manufacturing or design-related risks, ultimately improving customer satisfaction or reducing cost
- Engage in cross-functional collaboration to support all engineering efforts (electrical, mechanical, reliability, failure analysis, etc.)
- Be able to interpret the data and evidence from the analysis and figure out possible corrective actions and/or recommendations
Requirements:
- 3+ years of experience as a Reliability Test Engineer or equivalent
- Experience designing and performing reliability tests, including Mechanical Stress Tests, Shock/Drop/Vibration Testing and Environmental/Climatic Testing
- Background in Failure Analysis, and related tools, such as SEM/EDS, CT X-Ray, XRF, FTIR, and mechanical cross-sectioning
- Proficient using general engineering and mechanical hand tools, and light machine shop tools to perform basic tasks such as soldering, light fabrication of electrical and/or mechanical test systems, and rework/repair of existing systems
- Ability to use fundamental failure analysis methodology to derive a root cause of failure
- Knowledge of industry test standards
- Substantial experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) methodology
- Experience in manufacturing technologies, plastic and metal forming, PCB materials and fabrication, component package types and reliability comparisons
- Experience driving evaluations, test and verification for consumer products
- Well established knowledge in component-/board-level physics of failure and reliability test methods, and correlation of reliability prediction tools with measured results
- Ability to communicate well with cross-functional team members, efficiently collaborate to achieve project goals, and contribute positively to development and sustaining efforts
- Understanding of engineering drawings, mechanical design and manufacturing processes
- BS degree in a technical field or industry required, or equivalent work experience
- Consumer electronics experience
