BAE Systems, Inc. is an international defense, aerospace and security company seeking a Supplier Development Engineer. This role is vital in managing supplier relationships, ensuring high-quality products, and supporting the company's competitive edge in the market.
Responsibilities:
- Partner with Quality and the supplier through the corrective action process when supplier rejects are issued
- Function as a liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve performance issues and provide technical support
- Develop and implement fact-based improvement plans to enhance supplier quality, delivery, and cost performance
- Manage supplier improvement plans, conduct workshops (Kaizen events), and provide technical assistance as needed
- Lead investigations of major problems and special projects to develop strong partnerships with suppliers
- Analyze supplier quality and delivery metrics to identify trends and systemic performance gaps
- Implement and monitor production part approval processes with selected suppliers
- Develop and approve process controls to control critical characteristics
- Review and assess supplier manufacturing processes, capacity, and quality systems
- Collaborate with the procurement teams to strategically source parts matched with supplier competencies
- Recommend technical product improvements to reduce risk and potential defect opportunities
- Demonstrate innovation, technical excellence, attention to detail, self-direction, and courage
- Perform various supplier assessments, including technical, capacity, and QMS assessments
- Lead producibility efforts for improved design for manufacturing in conjunction with Design Engineering and suppliers
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in an engineering field from an accredited university and 6 years work experience
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in cable and harness assembly, connector manufacturing, or similar technologies
- Bachelor's degree with an engineering or supply chain focus is a plus
- Industry-specific certifications (e.g., IPC (Institute for Printed Circuits) certifications)
