
About the Opportunity:
To conduct chemical testing and interpret test results in support of Melting Operations and Production work. The Staff technician will use multiple instruments to perform an analysis while working independently, after training, and will work on off shifts and do weekend coverage as needed to support melting. This role will report to the Chemistry Lab Manager.
Qualifications:
Education: B.S. in Chemistry or Science-related field (P) or 2-year Degree with two years of related Lab experience
Experience: Two years of experience in a Laboratory Environment (R)
Areas of Knowledge: Chemistry or similar lab experience (R); Working knowledge of chemistry methods; XRF, ICP, OES (P); Good chemistry techniques (P), Industrial Safety (P)
Skills: Analytical Chemistry (P); Technical Writing (R), Computer Skills (R), Communication skills (R); mathematical skills (R), First Aid/CPR/AED (P)
Role Responsibilities:
Technical: Learn the operation, programming, troubleshooting of instrumentation. Input data to the VRA data collection system accurately. Make approved corrections and locate historic data. Follow Standard Operating Practices and learn the test standards from which they have been derived.
Manufacturing: Provide support by Operating instrumentation and by providing support for better practices. Work independently on off shifts to support Melt Operations on a 24/7 basis.
Quality Systems: Review procedures to ensure that the numbers generated by the Chemistry Lab are as accurate as possible. Evaluate consistency and accuracy through data analysis, round robin testing and by multiple instrument analysis as needed. Participate in preparation for all accreditation audits. Work directly with Lead Chemist, Technologist and Technicians on improvement projects.
