We are seeking a motivated Environment Health & Safety Intern to join our Barrett Paving Materials – New York Central team and support the success of our construction and materials operations. Our internship program runs from May to August and offers hands-on exposure to safety practices across road construction projects, asphalt manufacturing plants, and quarry operations.
As an intern, you will work closely with our safety team, gaining practical experience in workplace safety, regulatory compliance, and risk prevention within a fast-paced construction environment. This is an excellent opportunity to develop foundational skills in Environment, Health & Safety while supporting real-world operations.
$20/Hour
Support the safety team in promoting a strong culture of safety across job sites and facilities
Participate in site inspections and safety observations to help identify and reduce potential hazards
Assist with safety meetings, toolbox talks, and employee safety communications
Help maintain safety documentation, records, and compliance-related materials
Work alongside Safety Specialists to learn OSHA, MSHA, and other applicable safety regulations
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to safety awareness and best practices
Interest in workplace safety and regulatory compliance
Strong communication skills and willingness to engage with field teams
Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
Detail-oriented with good organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree program related to Safety Management, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field
