
This posting is for one full-time permanent position and one full-time temporary position up to 18 months
The Financial Reporting Advisor is responsible for the preparation, analysis, and review of corporate reporting and external compliance filings. This role provides direct support to the Senior Financial Reporting Advisor within the Financial Reporting Branch of Financial and Strategic Services. Responsibilities include communicating complex matters to other expert individuals, analysis of multifaceted financial and non-financial information, compilation, review of internal and public facing financial reports/filings and liaising with third-party reporting experts, including external auditors and government officials.
This role is also the primary contact and subject matter expert for Council Support in the coordination and reporting of Elected Official expenses. These responsibilities include training, analysis and quality assurance review, in which attention to detail and judgement is applied to the presentation of politically sensitive information to the public.
Key Responsibilities:
Qualifications and Skills:
An Accounting degree and a minimum of 3 years experience in accounting or a related area, or an Accounting diploma and a minimum of 5 years experience in accounting or a related area
Chartered Professional Accounting (CPA) designation in progress or obtained is an asset
Experience with financial analysis, public sector audits, financial statement preparation, and reporting, preferably within a municipal environment
Thorough knowledge and understanding of public sector accounting standards
Sound critical thinking and analytical skills, including the ability to identify issues, analyze risk, and propose alternative solutions
Experience in working with an integrated ERP system and utilizing that system efficiently to create accurate and timely financial information
Effective organizational, time management, and multi-tasking skills to prioritize and complete work within restricted timelines while ensuring attention to detail and accuracy
Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and resourcefulness
