The Contract Power Distribution Engineer will lead efforts in industrializing the Energy Controller Box, ensure UL certification, and manage engagement with utilities for site installation approvals.
Responsibilities:
- Drive the industrialization of the Energy Controller Box from prototype to production
- Ensure compliance with UL and other relevant standards for safety and reliability
- Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to meet certification requirements
- Support integration of the Energy Controller with Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)
- Provide the hardware and firmware system engineering power distribution expertise for scalable solutions
- Lead efforts to engage utilities and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) for site approvals
- Manage interconnection and new service applications with utilities
- Serve as technical liaison during permitting and compliance processes
- Provide engineering support for the MegaBESS program and other related initiatives
- Assist in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues during deployment
- Lead relationships with construction management firms, contractors/sub-contractors to perform cost-effective and high-quality installations
- Spearhead the review of engineering, construction and program-level campaign contracts
- Manage electrical design elements of utility coordination to create and leverage strong relationships with electric utilities to support rapid utility design, construction and energization of projects
- Act as a subject matter expect for executives in providing technical and construction expertise including ensuring company-wide adherence to all design and constructions standards and processes
- Travel as needed to oversee field-team progress, and documents evidence of program progress, adherence to project management processes and ensures rigorous quality and safety controls
Requirements:
- 5-7 years of relevant experience needed to perform the job
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years in hardware engineering, power systems, or energy storage solutions
- Electrical distribution system experience with engineering background
- Familiarity with utility interconnection requirements and permitting processes
- Electric Utility Design & Engagement Experience [5+ Years]
- Understanding of Battery Energy Storage Systems [BESS]
- Understanding of Utility Interconnection Applications
- Electrical contracting and construction experience
- Understanding of switchboard sizing and design
- Understanding on Civil/Electrical Engineering and Architectural Plans
- Strong understanding of utility transformer sizing
- Demonstrated record of precision & integrity in past work assignments
- Excellent communication skills to explain technical specifics to peers and customers
- Self-motivation to keep up with current electrical advances using new technologies
- Understanding of the NEC, UL, NESC, IEEE
- Experience with UL certification processes and industrialization of electrical products
- Previous experience with EMS or Load Management implementation
- Familiarity with AHJ approval processes and utility engagement strategies
- Understanding of Utility Construction and Processes
- Working knowledge of program/project management software
- Construction Estimator Experience [5+ Years]
- Understanding of EV Charging Equipment and its components
- Ability to stamp/seal electrical drawings with state license for submittal to AHJ for review
- Ability to use drafting software [example CAD]
- Extensive experience with multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects
