General Information
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will support prototype development, testing, and engineering validation activities for next‑generation inverter technologies. Working closely with engineers and technologists, the intern will assist in building and evaluating prototypes, developing test fixtures, performing material integrity assessments, and supporting lab operations. This role offers hands‑on engineering experience, exposure to advanced manufacturing processes, and collaboration with global teams driving innovative R&D initiatives.
Your Key Responsibilities

Help test and build Inverter Prototypes.

Perform unit teardowns and conduct failure/functional analysis.

Design inverter test and assembly fixtures under mentorship from senior engineers.

Support commissioning activities for a laser welding system.

Perform laser weld material integrity tests

Setup of experiments & prepare detailed engineering reports.

Maintain organization, cleanliness, and preventive maintenance/calibration of lab equipment to ensure efficient operation and minimal downtime.

Work closely with engineers and technologists to ensure team deliverables and expectations are consistently met.

Collaborate with teams across multiple countries and cultures to share technologies and support joint R&D initiatives.

Setup and run C.N.C milling/lathe equipment.

Set up and operate Wire E.D.M equipment.

Ability to read technical blueprints and understand GD&T principles.

Utilize basic shop equipment: drill presses, manual lathes, manual mills, belt sanders, surface grinders, pedestal grinders, table saws, horizontal saws, vertical saws.

Utilize measuring equipment: micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, height gages.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support team and business needs.
Your Qualifications
-
Currently enrolled in an accredited engineering or technical education program at the associate or bachelor’s level.

Have excellent organizational, oral and written communication skills.
-
Maintained a 2.5 GPA or higher.

Proficiency with hands on lab procedures and processes.

Proficiency with MS PowerPoint and MS Excel

Knowledge of CAD/CAM software
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in a model shop or with machining tools and processes.
- Prefer SAE/ASME membership with good club standing and recommendation from Team Captain.
