Role Summary
The Power Origination Lead will spearhead the origination, structuring, and execution of wholesale power supply transactions in support of the company’s long‑term energy and growth strategy. This role is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and closing complex power transactions across regulated and deregulated markets, with a particular focus on partnerships with independent power producers (IPPs), developers, utilities, and financial counterparties.
The Power Origination Lead will operate at the intersection of commercial strategy, market fundamentals, and capital deployment—driving early‑stage power solutions that enable development, M&A activity, and customer commitments. This is a senior, externally facing role requiring deep industry relationships, strong commercial judgment, and the ability to lead complex transactions from concept through execution.
Travel: Ability to travel approximately 25% for customer meetings, company gatherings, and project sites.
Location: Denver, CO or Seattle, WA (3 day hybrid in-office role)
Compensation: $190-$215K (Offers Bonus)
Key Responsibilities
Power Origination & Transactions
Lead origination of wholesale power supply opportunities across multiple markets, including long‑term PPAs, tolling arrangements, hedging structures, and hybrid supply solutions.
Source and negotiate power transactions with IPPs, utilities, developers, and other market participants.
Own commercial negotiations, term sheet development, and contract structuring in coordination with Legal, Finance, and internal stakeholders.
Evaluate market opportunities across ISOs/RTOs and vertically integrated utility territories, incorporating regulatory, congestion, and pricing dynamics.
Commercial Structuring & Deal Leadership
Design and structure creative commercial solutions that balance speed, risk, cost, and long‑term optionality.
Lead cross‑functional deal teams through diligence, approval, and execution, ensuring alignment on risk allocation and value creation.
Support M&A activity by evaluating power supply strategies for acquisitions, joint ventures, and platform investments.
Serve as a senior reviewer and decision‑maker for power deal economics, credit considerations, and counterparty risk.
Strategy & Market Engagement
Develop and maintain deep relationships with IPPs, utilities, developers, traders, power marketers, and advisors.
Track power market fundamentals, regulatory developments, and competitive dynamics to inform origination strategy.
Partner with development, finance, and executive leadership to align power origination efforts with broader growth and capital plans.
Represent the company externally in commercial discussions, industry forums, and strategic negotiations.
Basic Qualifications
Minimum 10+ years of experience in the power industry, with a strong emphasis on wholesale power markets.
Proven track record originating and executing complex power transactions, including PPAs and structured commercial arrangements across multiple North American regulated and deregulated power markets.
Deep experience working with IPPs, developers, utilities, and financial counterparties. Background in commercial strategy, trading, or structured energy finance.
Strong understanding of power market fundamentals, ISO/RTO structures, and regulatory environments.
Experience supporting or leading power‑related aspects of M&A and large‑scale infrastructure investments.
Demonstrated ability to lead negotiations, manage risk, and drive deals to close in fast‑moving, ambiguous, early‑stage deal environments.
Exceptional communication, judgment, and stakeholder management skills.
