WSP’s Water Group is expanding, and our national Asset Management & Planning team is looking for a Senior Materials Engineer to play a key role in delivering innovative, sustainable, and technically excellent solutions for our clients.

About the Role

As a Senior Materials Engineer within our Water business, you will contribute specialist expertise across a variety of water and wastewater infrastructure and network projects. You’ll support condition assessments, durability planning, materials selection, corrosion protection, coatings, welding advice, and asset design life considerations.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation who is developing toward independent project delivery and chartered status.

This position can be based in our Adelaide or Sydney offices.

What You’ll Do

• Prepare Durability Planning documentation and contribute to project proposals.
• Provide Materials Engineering advice including corrosion, coatings, cathodic protection, materials selection, and asset management.
• Undertake condition assessments for water and wastewater assets.
• Prepare high‑quality technical reports and documentation.
• Deliver key technical tasks independently across small to medium projects.
• Identify and manage risks across assigned work packages.
• Apply and further develop understanding of Safety in Design principles.
• Support best‑practice outcomes to improve project cost, time, and quality.
• Maintain technical knowledge relevant to materials engineering and durability.

About You

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (or equivalent).
• Typically 5+ years’ experience ideally in a consultancy environment.
• Actively working towards Chartered status (advantage).
• Experience in technical report writing and proposal development.
• Ability to deliver work within agreed cost and time requirements.
• Developing capability in managing scopes, clients, and multiple project tasks.
• Strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, and ability to manage yourself under pressure.
