Panther is a cybersecurity company focused on detecting breaches through a cloud-native architecture. The Staff Software Engineer on the Platform team will be responsible for building and operating backend systems and cloud infrastructure while leading technical initiatives and ensuring scalable and secure services.
Responsibilities:
- Lead architecture and technical decision making, including edge cases across product, public cloud, and the security domain
- Drive initiatives end-to-end — from ambiguous business requirements through implementation, deployment, and measurable outcomes
- Design, build, and maintain scalable and secure cloud-based services with an emphasis on efficiency and self-service
- Apply first-principles thinking to guide architectural decisions and manage stakeholder trade-offs
- Mentor and coach engineers through design reviews, code reviews, technical guidance, and course correction, and how to use observability systems to operate services with confidence
- Establish and elevate engineering best practices across backend development, DevOps, and infrastructure
- Deliver business impact by solving ambiguous problems across the company and, when needed, with customers
- Partner closely with development teams and fellow platform engineers to address critical issues
- Build automation tooling to streamline provisioning, configuration, and deployment & Improve service visibility via metrics, tracing, logs, and analytics
Requirements:
- Demonstrated ability to deliver value in highly ambiguous problem spaces
- Exceptional architecture experience solving complex and edge-case problems across product, platform, cloud, and/or security domains
- Proven experience driving business requirements through deployment with measurable impact
- Deep expertise in backend system design and distributed systems
- Own and evolve our CI/CD automation and cloud infrastructure strategy to improve reliability, scalability, and security
- Best-in-class CI/CD practices and experience with infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation
- Experience operating observability and logging systems at scale (for example, Datadog and Sentry)
- Experience in an Infrastructure, Platform Engineering, or DevOps-focused role in an AWS cloud environment
- Expertise writing production code in Golang or Python
- Strong fundamentals in software design, development, and architecture
- Ownership and initiative in ambiguous problem spaces
- Strong product and stakeholder judgment, including first-principles decision making
- Mentorship and technical leadership through design reviews, code reviews, and coaching
