Morson Edge is seeking Senior Engineers – Plant Control Systems Design to support advanced nuclear power plant projects. The role focuses on the design and development of Instrumentation & Control (I&C) systems for reactor protection and safety-related systems within advanced reactor technologies.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement engineering solutions for Instrumentation & Control (I&C) systems in nuclear power plants
- Apply control theory, mathematical modeling, and simulation to design advanced control systems and algorithms
- Design and support safety and non-safety systems including:
- Safety-Related (SC1) systems such as reactor protection, neutron monitoring, emergency core cooling, and engineered safety features
- Augmented Quality / RTNSS (SC2) systems including diverse actuation, reactivity control rods, and steam bypass controls
- Plant Investment Protection (SC3) systems such as anticipatory trip systems, feedwater control, cooling systems, and leak detection
- Balance of Plant (BOP) systems including service water, electrical systems, diesel generators, and HVAC
- Lead or support engineering work through all project phases including: Conceptual Design, Front-End Engineering Design (FEED), Preliminary and Detailed Design Develop engineering documentation including:
- Technical specifications and reports
- System functions, algorithms, and setpoints
- Equipment configurations and layouts
- Electrical and instrumentation loads
- Produce technical diagrams and schematics such as:
- Functional block diagrams
- Logic diagrams and ladder logic
- Electrical schematics
- Data communication and network diagrams
- Develop and analyze dynamic simulation and modeling tools to support design validation
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to ensure system reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAM)
- Perform or support risk and reliability analyses including FMEA and PRA
- Support supplier selection and procurement activities, including preparation of technical specifications
- Oversee supplier integration, testing, and system validation including Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT)
- Work closely with project managers, engineering partners, and suppliers to ensure deliverables meet technical, schedule, and budget requirements
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance within the engineering team
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline
- 10+ years of engineering experience in heavy industries such as; Nuclear, Power generation, Oil & Gas, Marine, Aerospace, Defense, Pharmaceutical or process industries
- 10+ years of experience designing control systems and instrumentation systems
- Extensive experience producing engineering documentation including: Specifications, Drawings and diagrams, System functions and algorithms, Equipment configuration documentation, Experience creating engineering diagrams including: Functional block diagrams, Logic diagrams, Electrical schematics, Data communication/network diagrams
- Strong experience with engineering modeling and simulation tools
- Familiarity with IEC 60000, 61000, and 62000 series standards
- Proficiency with engineering and productivity tools such as: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, Visio
- Experience working with safety-significant instrumentation and control systems
- 5+ years experience with PLC or Distributed Control Systems (DCS) used in complex real-time industrial environments
- Master's Degree in Engineering or related technical discipline
- Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Control Systems PE certification (NCEES)
- Professional Engineer of Ontario (PEng) designation
- PMP certification or MBA
- Nuclear analog and digital instrumentation and control systems
- Nuclear regulatory and licensing processes (US NRC or international regulators)
- Experience with modern Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
- Experience performing FMEA and reliability analysis
