Bixal is a consulting company headquartered in Fairfax, VA, dedicated to improving government services through technology. The Software Engineer (Drupal + WordPress) will design and develop secure and scalable web solutions using modern content management systems, collaborating with various stakeholders in an Agile environment to enhance digital experiences for public-facing services.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain enterprise websites using Drupal and WordPress
- Build custom themes, modules, plugins, and reusable components aligned with design systems such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS)
- Implement integrations with external systems and APIs including identity providers, analytics platforms, and data services
- Collaborate with designers and product teams to deliver responsive, accessible front-end implementations
- Contribute to CMS architecture decisions including content modeling, taxonomy, and reusable components
- Ensure solutions meet accessibility, security, and performance standards and contribute to engineering best practices
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, estimation, and backlog refinement
- Conduct code reviews, troubleshoot production issues, and improve system reliability
- Work with DevOps teams to support CI/CD pipelines and platform operations
- Other relevant duties as qualified and trained to assume
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, 7+ years of professional web development experience, or equivalent practical experience (10 years without degree)
- Experience building and maintaining web applications and content management platforms, including Drupal and WordPress
- Proficiency with PHP, HTML, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), and JavaScript
- Experience integrating APIs and third-party systems
- Demonstrated understanding of accessibility standards such as Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG)
- Familiarity with design systems such as the U.S. Web Design System (USWDS) or similar component frameworks
- Experience working in Agile teams using Git-based workflows
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust security clearance
