Postdoctoral Associate

Summary

This position is in the Herman Laboratory in the Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism, Department of Medicine, Baylor College of Medicine (BCM). BCM is one of the top ranked medical schools in the country, and is well known for its exceptional, innovative, and collaborative research environment. The Postdoctoral Associate will be conducting basic and translational research investigating molecular mechanisms by which organisms sense and respond to changes in nutrient availability to regulate systemic metabolism in the pathogenesis of cardiometabolic disease. The Postdoctoral Associate will likely use a combination of genetic mouse models, organoid models, and multi-omic technologies during these studies. The lab provides an interactive and stimulating environment as well as opportunities for growth and career development. The Postdoctoral Associate should be highly motivated, well organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team. They will be required to design aspects of the project, conduct experimental research, and publish manuscripts as a lead author.

The lab welcomes people from diverse backgrounds. The Postdoctoal Associate will work side-by-side with Dr. Herman to develop cutting-edge scientific skills while pursuing relevant subject matter and expanding into new scientific areas.

Job Duties

• Plans, directs, and conducts specialized and advanced research experiments.
• Conducts physiology experiments in genetic mouse models.
• Prepares samples from genetic mouse models for molecular analyses.
• Conducts cell culture experiments to investigate molecular metabolism.
• Evaluates and analyzes data.
• Establishes new research protocols and procedures.
• Summarizes research findings and publishes results in research journals. 
• Contributes to organizing laboratory operations.
• Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• MD or Ph.D. in Basic Science, Health Science, or a related field.
• No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

• Be highly motivated, well organized, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
