Job Summary:
Provides competent, high-quality prosthetic appliances to patients that is aesthetically, phonetically and technically acceptable. Provides a high standard of patient care. Ensures the provision of healthcare services takes place in a professional non-bias environment, and is accomplished efficiently.
Essential Functions:
- Provides comprehensive removable dental prosthetic services to patients, as needed, working within scope to provide a high standard of care, to include but not limited to: work directly with patients and review health history, evaluate oral health to determine appropriate prosthesis, make, fit and deliver complete and partial dentures; assess existing prosthesis for maintenance, repair or replacement, and request consultation or referrals when appropriate.
- Provides reviews of medical history, x-rays and treatment planning.
- Takes impressions, bite registrations and makes tooth and shade selections.
- Fabricates acrylic and/or metal partials as prescribed by the dentist of record, including the clasping of live teeth from impressions to delivery.
- Achieves acceptable vertical dimension and proper occlusion.
- Performs post-operative adjustments and relines.
- Achieves clinical targets as they relate to access and productivity.
- Devises individual treatment plans for patients.
- Appropriately manages acute removable prosthetic issues by diagnosing and treating patient on an urgent/emergent basis.
- Consistently exercises discretion and independent judgement regarding clinical aspects of prosthetic care.
- As a clinical leader, provides direct and indirect mentoring, supervision and feedback to clinical staff.
- As a professional leader, provides high quality care and serves as a responsible steward of resources.
- Utilizes intra-oral and panoramic radiographs, dental and lab instruments, other diagnostic instruments, dental appliances, air turbine/electric hand pieces and examine and perform applicable procedures of the oral structures.
- Inspects all phases of removable dental prosthetic work (work in-progress and finished work), for quality, accuracy and compliance with prescription specifications and ensure work is completed by given deadlines.
- Remains knowledgeable of removable dental prosthetic procedures, techniques, regulations, and practices and look for ways to recommend and implement changes to improve operations.
- Consults and collaborates with dental providers as needed, to ensure prescription specifications are accurate and met within set timeframe.
- Establishes and maintains positive staff and vendor communications/relationships and proactively troubleshoot issues when they arise.
- Works with Manager and provides input, as requested, for the Dental Lab budget.
- Accurately and effectively utilizes the EDR system.
- Provides staff training, as requested, on new and current removable dental prosthetic processes and procedures.
- Performs a variety of other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Supervisory:
- Supervises assigned staff.
- Provides mentoring and performance feedback directly to staff or indirectly to office supervisors to enhance performance, fully utilize scope of practice and accomplish goals.
- Assures staff adherence to all policies and procedures, work, safety and administrative rule, Tribal Law and State Regulations.
- Serves as a mentor, as requested, for Tribal career development.
Education, Experience, and Licenses:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED and completion of two (2) years’ of college level training and completion of requisite practicum hours.
- Requires an Oregon Denturist License.
- Must have knowledge of removable dental prosthetic procedures, techniques, regulations, and practices and look for ways to recommend and implement changes to improve operations.
- OR equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Driving Requirements:
- Must maintain a valid Oregon driver’s license or obtain one upon hire, qualify for the Tribe’s vehicle insurance, and provide proof of personal vehicle insurance.
Qualifications, Registrations, and Certifications:
- CPR Certification within 90 days of hire.
- National Provider Identification Number (NPI) is required.
- Must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Adherences to the organization’s policies and procedures covering the privacy, access, and patient health information in compliance with Federal and state laws.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients and clinic staff.
- Must have knowledge and experience in use of computerized electronic health records and software applications.
- Knowledge of and sensitivity to Native American culture is required.
Environmental Factors and Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- Continually requires the ability to express or receive detailed information or important instructions through oral communication.
- Continually requires working with fingers rather than the whole hand or arm. Requires repetitive movement of wrists, hands and/or fingers. Often requires walking or moving about to accomplish tasks.
- Requires standing and/or sitting for sustained periods of time, raising objects from a lower to a higher position and/or moving objects horizontally.
- Occasionally requires lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- This position is frequently subject to inside environmental conditions, which provide protection from weather conditions, but not necessarily from temperature changes, and is occasionally subject to outside environmental conditions.
- Supports a safe work environment by performing all duties in accordance with Tribal safety policies and procedures, and Emergency Management Plan.
- Due to the nature of the interactions with other employees and the public we serve, employees may be required to provide documentation of, or receive, certain health vaccinations.
- May be called upon to serve as a Disaster Reservist during emergencies.
- Local travel is occasionally required. Travel outside of the state is infrequently required.
