The Safety Engineering Manager will lead the development and execution of safety strategies for High Voltage/High Power systems, manage the Safety group, and ensure compliance with safety regulations while collaborating with various teams.
Responsibilities:
- Developing or approving Product Safety Program Plans, Fault Trees, Common Mode Analysis, and other related safety required documents, defining the Product Safety tasking across the program life cycle
- Preparing presentations and participating in Design Reviews, Test Readiness Reviews, Technical Interchange Meetings, and various working groups and safety review meetings both internal and with customers
- Coordinating with System Design and Test teams in defining and approving hazard mitigation provisions, and preparing test plans/procedures to support testing
- Investigating Product related events with safety implications to develop corrective and preventive measures
- Maintaining required Safety documentation establishing compliance with contractual requirements and applicable regulations (Safety Case)
- Collaborating with peers across BAE Systems Inc. in relevant working groups
- Managing the Safety group and be responsible for
- Providing performance management of the group including providing bi-annual performance feedback through the PDR process
- Providing talent development and training as necessary to further develop the capability of the group
- Conducting hiring as well as defining/executing New Business process improvement initiatives
- Supporting and leading safety engineering using model based systems engineering / digital engineering
- Coordinating with System Design teams to define and approve hazards and mitigation provisions
Requirements:
- A minimum of a BS in Engineering, Science or equivalent Safety experience
- Electrical Engineering preferred with a minimum of 10-12 years work experience in a related field
- Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
- Demonstrated ability to communicate with business leaders, technical leaders, peers, subordinates, and customers
- Must be experienced/fluent in MIL-STD-882, ISO26262, and Domestic/International safety regulations related to electric and hybrid automotive systems and energy storage systems
- Must have a working knowledge of IEC61508 and Battery safety Standards such as IEC62133, UL1642, UL2056
- Experience with Product/System Safety contractual requirements and their execution throughout the product lifecycle
- Experience leading dynamic engineering teams to identify hazards, assess and mitigate associated risks encountered in the design, development, test, production, use and disposal
- MS in engineering discipline and 12+ years experience
- A Full Spectrum Leader, the successful candidate will have demonstrated experience managing dynamic teams
- Experience with leading audits
- Mishap prevention/investigations
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP/ASP)
- Subject matter expert in the Product/System Safety discipline
- Functional Safety Certification Program
