Overseeing/lead a team of design engineers responsible for applying mechanical engineering principles in the product development process of access systems solutions from concept ideation, design, prototype, testing, and commissioning to final production. Lead a cross-functional Team that owns the action plan to deliver new access systems solutions.
- Hire, supervise, mentor, and develop design engineers and support staff. Write performance reviews and resolve any personnel issues/conflicts.
- Assign design engineering resources to projects based on business priorities and market needs.
- Establish team goals aligned with engineering KPIs including cycle time, quality and cost objectives.
- Work with product management team to analyze market need and translate them into engineering plans.
- Provide input into the long-term roadmap and new product development strategy.
- Coordinate activities with other organizations, both internally and externally, to ensure the success of the project.
- Lead and participate in ideation workshops and other cross functional team workshops intended to develop concept, define design priorities, and determine design performance objectives or goals.
- Lead formal design reviews and stage-gate approvals to ensure technical and commercial readiness.
- Develop and execute detailed project plans to develop new product to meet the market demand.
- Participate in research and development procedures for new product development (NPD).
- Develop overall concepts for a new product or a new mechanical systems and components utilizing parametric 3D CAD software.
- Perform thorough dimensional and tolerance analysis from concept phase to the final release of the new or redesigned products
- Analyze mechanical systems' stress, fatigue and vibration utilizing finite element analysis.
- Develop procedures to validate and test mechanical systems and components, verifying compliance to performance or specification goals.
- Develop complete design drawing and mechanical specifications for manufacturing and supply chain.
- Directs and coordinates fabrications and installation activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design and customer specifications.
- Designs products to interface with machines, hardware, and software.
- Evaluate and select external vendors and suppliers from a technical and quality perspective.
- Lead continuous product improvement efforts by identifying design, quality, and manufacturability enhancements.
- Drive cost‑reduction initiatives through value engineering, material optimization, and component standardization.
- Oversee accurate Bills of Materials (BoMs) and item data within the ERP system, ensuring timely updates tied to engineering changes.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Quality, and Supply Chain to validate improvements and support efficient production execution.
Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by their supervisor, as determined from time to time at their sole and complete discretion.
A minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible product engineering experience in mechanical engineering design and development is required. At least five years of engineering leadership, supervisory, or significant project/project leadership experience required. Direct experience in access systems industry or similar engineered product manufacturing environment is required.
Preferred Experience
Experience in consumer durable or packaged good is preferred.
Education
A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering is required.
Preferred Education
Master’s degree in mechanical engineering is preferred.
Required Skills
- Knowledge of mechanical engineering and product development principles and practices. Excellent SolidWorks/3D CAD skills
- Knowledge of design analysis utilizing finite element analysis.
- Ability to lead design and process failure mode and effects analysis (DFMEA/PFMEA) sessions.
- Experience with rapid prototype design and build for proof of concept and usability testing.
- Experience working in cross functional teams.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects and applying project management principles to effectively manage resources, timelines, and deliverables.
- Good problem solving, Six Sigma training a plus.
- Computer literate in MS Office products.
- Good written and oral presentation skills – for both internal groups as well as clients and trade groups/ seminars

Work Conditions
Office based with travel up to 10% of the time by land or air.

Occasionally required to walk, bend, or reach when visiting labs, manufacturing floors, or product testing areas. Ability to safely interact with prototype products, equipment, and tools in an R&D environment. Visual and auditory ability sufficient to read technical documents, use computers, and communicate effectively. On occasion, requires the ability to lift and carry items up to 50 lbs.; items exceeding 50 lbs. require a team lift or mechanical assistance.
