About the role
The Construction & Facilities Management Consultant will oversee facility development, compliance, and automation project implementation across the company’s nationwide last-mile logistics network. This role is responsible for monitoring and advising on warehouse leasing, build-out, renovation, and exit processes, ensuring all facilities comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations. In addition, the consultant will guide the planning, approval, and execution of warehouse automation projects, ensuring facilities meet infrastructure, safety, and permitting requirements. The consultant will work cross-functionally with operations, real estate, leadership, contractors, and automation vendors to ensure facilities are operationally ready, compliant, and aligned with network expansion objectives.
What you'll do
1. Nationwide Warehouse Lifecycle Oversight
- Monitor and provide advisory support for warehouse lifecycle activities across all U.S. facilities, including:
- Lease initiation and site evaluation
- Tenant improvements (TI) and facility renovations
- Warehouse expansions or modifications
- Lease termination and facility exit processes
- Review facility-related documentation and advise on compliance risks.
- Ensure facility activities align with operational and regulatory requirements.
2. Construction & Facility Development Management
- Oversee construction and build-out activities for warehouse facilities.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and landlords.
- Support facility infrastructure readiness including:
- Electrical capacity
- Structural modifications
- Dock configurations
- Warehouse layout optimization
- Ensure projects meet operational needs for last-mile logistics.
3. Permitting & Regulatory Compliance
- Guide permit applications including building, electrical, mechanical, and fire permits.
- Coordinate inspections with local authorities to secure Certificates of Occupancy (CO).
- Ensure compliance with local building codes, fire regulations, and safety standards.
- Provide regulatory risk advisory related to construction and automation infrastructure.
4. Warehouse Automation Project Oversight
- Guide internal teams through the planning, approval, and implementation of warehouse automation projects.
- Ensure facility modifications required for automation systems comply with permitting and safety regulations.
- Coordinate with automation vendors and contractors during installation and commissioning.
- Support operational launch and stabilization of automation systems.
- Document and standardize automation facility readiness practices across the network.
5. Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage relationships with construction contractors, facility service providers, and automation vendors.
- Review project timelines, cost estimates, and deliverables.
- Monitor quality, compliance, and adherence to project milestones.
6. Compliance & Risk Advisory
- Provide advisory support on facility-related compliance risks nationwide.
- Ensure facility operations comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulations.
- Support resolution of regulatory issues or inspection findings.
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in industrial construction, facilities management, or logistics facility development.
- Experience managing warehouse build-outs and tenant improvement projects.
- Experience supporting multi-site or nationwide facility operations.
- Familiarity with warehouse automation infrastructure is strongly preferred.
Skills
- Strong project management and coordination capabilities.
- Knowledge of building codes, permitting processes, and industrial facility systems.
- Ability to manage multiple projects across different states.
- Strong communication and cross-functional leadership skills.
Engagement Terms
This role is structured as a six-month consulting engagement supporting warehouse construction, compliance oversight, and automation project implementation across the logistics network.
