Calance is seeking a hands-on Senior Cloud Migration Engineer who will be the primary technical executor for AWS migrations. The role involves working closely with various teams to plan, design, configure, migrate, validate, and stabilize the environment in AWS, particularly focusing on VMware-to-EC2 lift-and-shift projects.
Responsibilities:
- Validate and reconcile connection profiles from ModelizeIT against actual runtime traffic to ensure security groups are correctly scoped
- Assess EC2 instance right-sizing using AWS Application Discovery Service or equivalent tooling based on current VM performance data
- Configure replication jobs, target blueprints (VPC, subnets, security groups, NACLs, EBS volumes), and launch templates for each server
- Execute test launches and production cutovers with documented rollback procedures
- Coordinate the migration sequencing of app servers, custom API hosts and other custom Windows-based workloads as separate migration waves
- Work with Oracle Partner on Oracle DB cutover coordination to ensure app-to-database proximity is maintained post-migration
- Validate connectivity between AWS us-east-1 and on-premises Aberdeen/Las Vegas warehouses
- Ensure TCP/MHE endpoint reachability from AWS-hosted Manhattan app servers to on-premises systems that remain locally hosted
- Update and validate all hardcoded IP addresses, hostnames, and connection strings in application configuration files post-migration
- Validate RF scanner, label printer, and warehouse floor device connectivity to migrated app servers
- Consult on AWS security group rules, and IAM policies aligned to least-privilege principles
- Ensure RHEL 7.9 Extended Life Cycle Support (ELS) licensing is properly registered in AWS (BYOL model through June 2028)
- Integrate AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, New Relic, and others for monitoring and alerting on EC2, storage, and network health post-migration
- Lead cutover runbook creation and rehearsal, including rollback plans for each wave
- Coordinate with Customer’s WMS operations team to schedule cutover windows that avoid peak warehouse operations
- Support post-cutover hyper-care period, resolving connectivity, performance, and integration issues
Requirements:
- 7+ years of hands-on infrastructure/cloud engineering experience
- 3+ years executing AWS migrations, specifically VMware-to-EC2 lift-and-shift projects
- Demonstrated experience with AWS Application Migration Service (MGN) or Zerto for VM replication and cutover
- Strong Linux administration skills — RHEL 6/7/8, systemd, networking, storage — including post-migration OS cleanup (VMware Tools removal, network driver replacement)
- Deep understanding of AWS networking — VPC design, subnets, security groups, route tables, VPN/Direct Connect
- Experience building and managing AWS IAM roles, policies, and instance profiles
- Proficiency with AWS CloudWatch, Splunk, and New Relic for monitoring, log aggregation, and alerting
- Experience with Oracle database environments sufficient to coordinate with a DBA team on connectivity, listener configuration, and post-migration validation
- Ability to read and interpret application configuration files and connection strings across Java/JBoss-based middleware stacks
- Strong documentation & communication skills — runbooks, cutover plans, architecture diagrams, post-migration validation checklists
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional or AWS Certified SysOps Administrator
- Experience with Zerto specifically for RHEL-to-AWS migrations (compatible with RHEL 7.9)
- Familiarity with JBoss/WildFly application server configuration and startup validation
- Exposure to warehouse management systems or industrial/logistics application environments
- Experience with MuleSoft or REST API integration layer re-pointing post-migration
- Familiarity with Rubrik or similar backup platforms for post-migration backup reconfiguration
- Experience coordinating with third-party application vendors during infrastructure migrations
- Proven experience across multiple AWS migration strategy types — including Rehost (lift-and-shift), Replatform (lift-tinker-and-shift), and Refactor/Re-architect approaches. The candidate should be able to articulate the trade-offs between strategies, have hands-on delivery experience with at least two of the three, and be capable of advising stakeholders when a workload warrants a different strategy than originally scoped. Familiarity with AWS's 7 R framework is expected
