Principal AI Engineer

People In AI is a well-funded, early-stage technology company addressing challenges in generative AI. They are seeking a Principal AI Engineer to design systems that enhance the understanding, reliability, and maintainability of AI-driven applications in production environments.

Responsibilities:

• Design architectures for evaluating and understanding AI system behavior
• Develop approaches for diagnosing unexpected outputs in AI-driven workflows
• Guide engineers toward practical ways to improve system performance and reliability
• Contribute to platform-level decisions around applied AI infrastructure
• Help define best practices for building robust AI-powered applications

Requirements:

• Strong engineering background with exposure to applied AI systems
• Experience shipping or supporting AI-powered applications in production
• Systems thinking and strong architectural judgment
• Familiarity with evaluation methods, monitoring approaches, or reliability patterns in AI systems
• Comfort working in early-stage environments where direction evolves quickly
• Ability to communicate complex technical tradeoffs clearly
